Eckert Makes It Two Straight At Hagerstown

By Brad Vores  March 16, 2008

Rick Eckert is enjoying the early season races at Hagerstown Speedway.

The York, PA native made it two for two in late model competition at the Maryland oval with another win on Saturday afternoon.

This time, Eckert had to travel from Tennessee to Hagerstown before taking the feature win. Eckert was in Tennessee for World of Outlaws late model action which was rained out. His Raye Vest owned team then headed north and ended up picking up another $2,000 win.

This time Eckert started eighth in the field but was able to track down Josh Richards midway through the event for the lead and never looked back.

Roy Deese, Jr. finished in the runner-up spot for the second time this season, this time coming from the 13th starting spot. Richards fell to third with defending track champion JT Spence fourth and Dan Stone fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 finishers were Alan Sagi, Darryl Hills, Jared Miley, Jim Yoder and Gerald Davis.

Jimmy Phelps won the 30-lap big block modified main over Ryan Godown, Ray Swinehart, Chris Knopp and Del Rougevx.

LAUBACH TOPS RACE OF CHAMPIONS
Rick Laubach came from the rear of the field to win Saturday night’s Icebreaker 50 Race of Champions Modified feature at Selinsgrove Speedway.

It was the first modified event at the track since the 1982 season.

Laubach originally started eighth but had to start at the back of the pack following a flat tire on the third lap.

The Quakertown driver then moved into second and was following Billy Pauch when Pauch’s car developed problems sending him pitside and turning the lead and the win over to Laubach. It was worth $6,900 in money and contingency.

Pat Ward finished second over Jeff Rudalavage, David VanHorn and Mike Colsten.

Troy Miller picked up the pro stock feature win over Meade Hahn, Dave Bowsman, Dan Jensen and Devin Frye.

THREE WINNERS AT TRAILWAY
Trail-Way Speedway kicked off its 2008 racing season on Saturday as three different drivers graced victory lane in micro sprint competition.

Rick Stief started off with a win in the 600cc division leading all 20 laps over Joe Robertson, Aaron Spahr, Brent Marks and Mike Rutherford. Enola’s Jake Murphy finished 10th, Newville’s Timmie Barrick 14th and Tim Dietz was 19th in the Dan Little owned machine from Newville.

Defending champion Todd Hoover picked up the win in the 270cc micro feature over Nik Gower, Richie Hartman, Patrick Bealer and Jesse Mauer.

Jeremy Lynch took the checkered flag in the 1000cc Sidewinder sprint main ahead of Ron Taggert, Carlisle’s Rohan Beasley, Shawn Seifert and Tim Mertz. Mechanicsburg’s Chad Hough finished sixth.
