Steve Kinser might not win as many features as he once did but he is still the King of the Outlaws. Always was and always will be.

The Bloomington, Indiana driver got around race-long leader Craig Keel on lap 18 of Thursday night’s 25-lap Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws feature at Williams Grove Speedway and held on through two late race incidents for his first Outlaws win of the 2008 racing season.

Amazingly enough, Kinser’s win was his 38th career at Williams Grove, placing him in a seventh place tie with Kenny Weld on the tracks all-time win list.

The race was only the ninth event of the 2008 racing season completed by the World of Outlaws. They have had more weather-related cancellations than they have had racing events.

“The way things have been going, it’s just nice to get a race in,” said Kinser, after collecting the $8,000 paycheck as he became the seventh different winner at the track this season. “But it’s always nice to win here at Williams Grove. It’s a special place. I’ve been coming here for over 30 years and I’ve always enjoyed racing here. The tough competition around here is as good as it gets anywhere in the country.”

But Kinser’s toughest competition didn’t come from one of the likely members of the Pennsylvania Posse. It came from former Outlaw regular, now turned Posse Craig Keel who held Kinser at bay for a big part of the race. Keel ended up finishing second but was disqualified at post race weigh-in when his sprinter came up light at the scales.

Donny Schatz, who started in the 17th position finished second with Joey Saldana third, Lancaster’s Doug Esh fourth and Outlaws regular Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg fifth.

Jac Haudenschild, Todd Shaffer, Mike Erdley, Greg Hodnett and Jeff Shepard completed the top 10 finishers.

Wolfe ran second to Keel until lap 11 when Kinser, who started fourth took over the runner-up spot.

Kinser was all over Keel and actually took the lead on lap 13 before a red flag came out for an incident involving Sam Hafertepe and Alan Krimes.

Keel was placed back out front and managed to keep the Q Oil machine of Kinser behind for a few more laps, before Kinser drove under Keel off turn two to lead lap 18.

“I could go just about anywhere on the track tonight,” Kinser stated. “You gotta be ready when you come here and if you come here a little lost, you’re in trouble.
We’ll have to wait and see if we can repeat it. One night don’t mean anything anymore. It’s just so tough because you can win one night and not even make the show the next.”

A caution for Pat Cannon on lap 20 and then a red flag for Fred Rahmer on lap 23 slowed Kinser’s late race pace.

Rahmer and Shane Stewart made contact resulting in a Rahmer spin. Brian Leppo had no where to go and tagged Rahmer, turning him on his side.

Greg Hodnett paced the 48-car field during time trials with a lap of 16.752 seconds.

Shepard, Wolfe, Esh and Kerry Madsen won heat races. Jason Johnson won the C-Main, Cannon won the B-Main and Keel won the Dash.

The Outlaws return to Williams Grove tonight for the second night of action. Tonight’s main event will be 30 laps in distance with $12,000 going to the winner.

Should the track be forced to cancel tonight’s event because of rain in the area, the track will use Saturday night as a raindate for Friday night’s show.
