Gerry Strawser and Paul Miller came out on top of twin 20’s for Super
Sportsman Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
Strawser’s first career Grove win came in the first 20 lap event as he led
the entire distance while a good battle for the remainder of the top spots
ensured behind him.
Rookie driver Dylan Cisney grabbed runner-up honors over Rick Barr,
Carlisle’s Frankie Herr and Bobby Hockenberry. Mechanicsburg’s Dave
Berkheimer was sixth, Summerdale’s JR Fry seventh, Newville’s Russ Mitten
ninth, Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger 13th, Dillsburg’s Aaron Eichelberger
15th, Carlisle’s Jake Raudabaugh 17th, Summerdale’s Jason Fry 18th,
Mechanicsburg’s Derek Locke 19th and Dillsburg’s Ryan Rupp 24th after a
first lap flip.
Miller became the first repeat winner at the Grove with a final lap pass of
Carmen Perigo, Jr. for the race lead and the victory in the second feature.
His margin of victory was one car length over Perigo with Mitten third, Herr
fourth and Gregg Foster fifth. R. Eichelberger was sixth, JR Fry eighth,
Berkheimer ninth, Locke 12th, J. Fry 13th and Raudabaugh 19th.
Gene Knaub raced to his first Grove 358 late model win of the year after
starting back in the 10th spot.
Knaub’s win came over Bobby Beard, Travis Mease, Tommy Blackwell and Craig
Wagaman. Newville’s Dave Sokoloski was 11th.
Newville’s Doug Hoffman picked up the street stock win over Jim Salisbury,
Kory Sites, Gary Welsh and Rodney Clouser while Brian Sanders won the Enduro
Dash over David Wilhelm, Jen Powell, Mark Krone and Rob Keller.
RAHMER GETS TENTH WIN
Fred Rahmer reached the 10-win mark Saturday night with another win at
Lincoln Speedway.
Rahmer started 12th and took the lead from Jim Siegel on lap 19 and drove
off to a three-second victory for his fifth of the year in the Pigeon Hills
and 159th career at the track.
Brian Leppo had his second straight runner-up finish on the weekend and his
best Lincoln run of the year with Friday night Williams Grove winner Siegel
third over Doug Esh and Nick Schlauch, Jr.
Sixteen-year old Aaron Ott became the first repeat winner in the 358 sprint
car division with a win Saturday night.
Ott, a Rahmer protégé, led all 20 laps of the event despite starting fifth.
He defeated Adrian Shaffer, Jeff Rohrbaugh, Gerard McIntyre, Jr. and Chad
Myers. Ott also finished 10th in the 410 sprint car feature.
Sam Gallagher won for the second time in thundercar competition over Joe
Racine, Mike Slaybaugh, Marshall McMullen and Scott Fisher.
SMITH TOPS PORT
Mark Smith moved into sole possession of 11th place on the all-time Port
Royal Speedway winners list with a win in Saturday night’s Challenge at the
Port for 410 Sprints.
Smith started eighth and went out front on lap three and never looked back
in the big $5,000 payday for his 27th career track win and his fourth
overall this season in his own No. 7M.
Greg Hodnett came on strong late to finish in the runner-up spot with Keith
Kauffman third, Alan Cole fourth and Mike Erdley fifth.
Newport’s Tim Fedder capped off a great weekend with his first Port Royal
late model win of the year.
Fedder, who won his 100th career race in a 358 late model race Friday at
Path Valley, came back to led the final 18 laps at the Port for the win over
Mitch Hack, points leader Scott Haus with Tim Gray and Jason Miller both
being paid for fourth spot due to a cone violation for Gray that was not
cited by track officials during the event.
Tim Krape won the pro stock event over Devin Frey and Terry Naugle.
FLAMMER TAKES BIG WIN
Scott Flammer took the lead from Ryan Kissinger late in Saturday’s
Firecracker 30 for 358 Sprints and drove off to a convincing win, his first
of the year at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Flammer’s $2,000 win came over Phil Walter, Blane Heimbach, Davie Franek
and Kyle Bachman. Pat Cannon was involved in a first lap incident and came
from the rear of the field to place seventh in the Highlands owned sprinter.
Carlisle’s Dave Calaman finished ninth and Newville’s Todd Reed 16th.
Ken Trevitz won his first 25 lap late model feature of the season over
Steve Campbell, Jeff Rine, Chris Shuey and Brett Schadel.
Peanut Heintzelman was the pro stock winner and Keith Bissinger won another
roadrunner main.
DEHAVEN GETS FIRST WIN
Ronnie DeHaven, Jr. kept Alan Sagi at bay for the final half of Saturday
night’s 25 lap late model feature at Hagerstown Speedway to collect his
first win of the year.
DeHaven started on the front row and took the top spot with two laps
complete and then fended off all challenges by Sagi before taking the win.
Gary Stuhler came from 11th to third over Jamie Lathroum and Kirk Ryan, Jr.
Shermansdale’s Mike Lupfer was 12th.
Ashley Barrett won for the first time in late model sportsman action
winning over Fred Harden, Barry Miller, Scott Palmer and Terry Flaherty.
Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard finished 11th.
Dale Hollidge won for the third time in pure stock competition over Dave
Mikolajski and Steve Lowery.
Derek Riley was the enduro dash winner over Carlisle’s Matt Smith.
MCCLELLAND GETS FIRST CAREER WIN
Travis McClelland raced to his first career 358 late model win Saturday at
Susquehanna Speedway Park.
The Westminster, Maryland driver led all 20 laps to take the win over
Sterling Kinard, Shermansdale’s Jake Jones, John Moser, Jr. and Bud Witmer.
Carlisle’s Carl Billet finished eighth.
Gregory Diehl won his first street stock main over Todd Bowersox, Paul
Morgan, George Eash and Scott Thunberg. Newville’s Wes Alleman was seventh.
Alleman won the makeup street stock main from May 17 over Jimmy Slaseman,
Steven Dove, Eric Walker and Thunberg.
Wellsville’s John Stoll, Jr. was the winner of the 4-cylinder feature over
Jason Smith and Henry Lesher while Matt Wampler won the Xtreme Stock car
main.
OTHER WEEKEND ACTION
JJ Grasso picked up his second win of the season on the URC Sprint car tour
Saturday at New Egypt Speedway.
Grasso exchanged the lead with Chris Coyle several times before taking the
exciting win. All three of his URC wins have came at the New Jersey track.
Mark Bitner finished second with URC point leader Curt Michael third, Davey
Sammons fourth and Joey Biasi fifth.
URC was rained out on Friday at Penn Can Speedway with the race rescheduled
for early August.
Jack Pencil took his first win of the season in Bedford speedway late model
action on Friday night with a win over Greg Fetters, Steve Everhart, Brian
Booze and DJ Myers.
Chad McClellan won the limited late model feature at Bedford over Mike
Shoemaker and Derek Byler with Newville’s Donnie Farling 12th.
Cale Reigle won the 600 Micro Sprint feature Saturday at Shippensburg
Speedway over Bo Gordon, Zack Newlin, Kenny Harris and Alex Schanz.
Other track winners were Keith Arnolt in the thundercars, Donny Stine in
the mini stocks and Dillon Stake in the cyclones.
