Big Night For Cris Eash In The Pigeon Hills

ABBOTTSTOWN
Cris Eash said it was one of the best nights of his life Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.

The Hanover driver started the night off by winning the makeup 25-lap Sprint car feature rained out on May 17. It was the first time Eash won since September 2004.

 But it got better.

Eash then came back to capture the regular 25-lap feature to make it a double win night for the veteran driver.

It was the second time this season that one driver won two features on the same night in the Pigeon Hills. Cody Darrah accomplished the same feat a few weeks ago.

“When Cody did it a couple weeks ago I said nobody will ever do that again,” stated Eash after his 40th career Lincoln victory. “I guess I was wrong.”

Eash was strong in the regular feature, taking the lead on a lap 13 restart and drove off from the field for the win. With his two wins, he earned $6,200 for the Darren Eash owned, E & G Classics, Macri Concrete No. 17E sprinter.

“Things just went out way tonight and the car was awesome,” This is probably one of the best nights of my life.”

Cory Haas led the first five laps before giving way to Michael Carber.

Carber then held the point through numerous caution before Eash used a slider in turn one to grab the lead on lap 14.

While Eash was out front and driving away from the field, Carber, Niki Young, Brian Leppo and Brian Montieth were putting on a great battle for the next four spots.

Montieth blasted from fifth to second on the final lap and closed dramatically on Eash but ran short at the checkered flag.

Carber finished third over Young and 15th starting Chad Layton with Alan Krimes, Leppo, Jim Siegel, Nick Schlauch, Jr. and Haas completing the top 10.

Earlier in the night, Haas led the field to the green flag in the makeup 25 lap feature that was rained out on May 17.

Haas led until lap 13 when he spun in turn four as Eash was applying pressure on the outside.

Eash took control and then held on despite heavy late race traffic for the win over Krimes.

“I have goosebumps right now like this is the very first race I’ve ever won,” said Eash. “It’s been a long time and I really thought we’d be back here quicker than this. I ran the 67 car at the beginning of last year and things just didn’t work out. That was the first time I’ve ever raced for someone other than my Dad and it’s just not the same We do this to have fun and it’s nice to be back racing with my family. “

Krimes finished in the runner-up spot with Schlauch, Jr. finishing third, just five days after graduating with honors from Archbishop Wood High School. Fourth went to Josh Wells over Carber.

Dave Ely led all the way to win the 25-lap URC Sprint car feature after a long night of crashes during the URC heats.

Ely took the win over Trevor Lewis, Justin Collett, URC points leader Curt Michael and Brian Seidel with Kramer Williamson, Jason Clauss, Rory Janney, Chris Coyle and Mark Bitner completing the top 10 finishers.

Krimes, Eash and Haas won heats for the 24 sprints on hand.

URC heats were won by Collett, Ely, Seidel and  Lewis. Chad Layton  won the consolation for the 37-car field.

Lincoln returns to action next Saturday night with the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions visit to the Pigeon Hills. There will also be double thundercar features on the program. Race time is 7:30p.m.
