It’s hard to believe that Cory Haas’ first 358 sprint car feature
win of the season came Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
And he picked a good time to win that first event of the year.
Haas drove the Michael Barshinger owned sprint to victory in the
25-lap $2,500 to win Wintermyer Auto Salvage 358 Sprint
Championship. It was his first start of the year in the 358 division
at Lincoln as well.
With passing points in affect for the feature inversion, Haas
started on the pole but followed Adam Wilt for 18 laps before
pulling the slider on a restart and then driving to the win, his
13th career win at Lincoln in a limited sprint car.
Wilt finished a distant second over Lincoln points leader Gerard
McIntyre, Jr., Billy Dietrich and Danny Dietrich with Scott Geesey,
Dale Hammaker, Glenndon Forsythe, Aaron Ott and Tim Berkheimer
completing the top 10.
Brian Eichelberger received a $200 bonus from Mystery Wintermyer
for the Hard Charger Award, advancing from 22nd to 15th at the
finish.
Wilt received a $300 bonus from Wintermyer for having his finishing
position pulled randomly in victory lane. Hammaker received a free
front wing from Wings Unlimited and Haas and Adrian Shaffer both
received a free right wheel from series sponsor Keizer Aluminum
Wheels of Mt Holly Springs.
Eric Eckert set a new Lincoln 25-lap record with his win in the non
stop Super Sportsman feature.
Eckert’s winning time was 7:24.75 in the night’s regularly
scheduled Sportsman main.
He defeated Leroy Martin, Scott Dellinger, Newville’s Russ Mitten
and Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger. Dillsburg’s Ryan Rupp was sixth,
Mechanicsburg’s Derek Locke ninth and Dillsburg’s Aaron Eichelberger
10th.
Aaron Eichelberger won the makeup Super Sportsman feature from May
17th over Stan Wanner, Dave Socks, Mechanicsburg’s Derek Locke and
Gregg Foster. Mitten was 10th.
Bobby Beard picked up the big $1,500 paycheck with his win in the
MALCO Landscaping 358 late model feature over Gene Knaub, Travis
Mease, Travis Beaver and Fred Harden.
Knaub won the makeup 358 late model main earlier in the night over
John Baker, Derrick Zirkle, Mike Walls and Roy Warehime. Newville’s
Dave Sokoloski finished sixth.
A NEW CANNON ON TOP
Steve Cannon normally takes a back seat to brother Pat Cannon in
local 358 Sprint car competition.
But Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway, it was younger brother
Steve showing the fast way around the big half mile in his first 358
sprint car win of the season.
Cannon’s win was his first since suffering season ending injuries
last April at the track.
He took the lead from Duane Mausteller on lap 16 and drove to a
near-two second victory over Blane Heimbach, Colby Womer, Mausteller
and points leader Pat Cannon. Carlisle’s Dave Calaman was seventh.
Danville’s Jeff Rine captured his third career massive payday.com
Late Model Open at the track. Rine took the lead on the second lap
and drove away to the $2,000 payday for his second win of the
season.
Dan Stone finished second over Jeff Smith, Steve Campbell and Tony
Adams.
Peanut Heintzelman won the pro stocks while Keith Bissinger
collected two wins in roadrunner action.
In other news from Selinsgrove, track officials reversed last
Saturday night’s late model finish giving Bobby Croop the 25 lap
win. Croop’s win was stripped that night because of an apparent
scoring error and the win given to Rine. But officials overturned
the call and it was Croop declared the winner for a 69th career time
at the Snyder County track.
BIG WIN FOR STUHLER
If there was any race Gary Stuhler wanted to win, it was Saturday’s
first annual Red Nininger Memorial at Hagerstown Speedway.
Stuhler drives for the Nininger Tire and Auto Center owned team so
it was only fitting that Hagerstown’s all time career win leader
would come out on top of this event.
Stuhler’s 125th career track win came despite developing motor
problems on the final lap of the race.
Tyler Armstrong finished right behind Stuhler for the runner-up
spot with Keith Jackson, Marvin Winters and 20th starting Rick
Eckert, off the World of Outlaw tour finishing fifth.
Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard ended a long Hagerstown dry spell with
his first win of the year in the Late Model Sportsman Maryland Clash
which was postponed from May 17.
Bard led the final 25 laps for the win over Shippensburg’s Ashley
Barrett, Scott Palmer, Tyler Armstrong and Jamie Swank.
Kenny Dillon won the Eddie Cornett Tribute for pure stocks over
Dave Stouffer, Jr., Kevin Keefer, Jim Snyder and Steve Lowery.
Carlisle’s Matt Smith won the Enduro Dash over Mark Vegh and Larry
Hurley, Jr.
TWO WINS FOR MCCLELLAND
After notching a career first 358 late model win a few weeks ago at
Susquehanna Speedway Park, Westminster, MD driver Travis McClelland
came back to win for the second time Saturday night in the 30-lap
Summer Championship.
McClelland missed a big first lap crash which eliminated Carl
Billet and took the lead on lap three and never looked back in his
win over Randy Christine, Jr., Carlisle’s Scott Richwine, Ken Knoll
and Shermansdale’s Jake Jones.
Newville’s Wes Alleman won for the fourth time in street stock
action over Eric Walker, George Eash, Craig Morgan and Dave
Thompson, Jr.
Susquehanna Speedway hosted PA 600 Speedweek on Thursday night
where Ben Murphy, formerly of Enola now living in North Carolina
scored the win. He won over Shippensburg’s Dwayne Gutshall, Ryan
Guyett, Tim Glatfelter and Jimmy Brookens.
