It’s the last hurrah for a full weekend of auto racing before the off-season sets in.
Weather permitting, Lincoln, Williams Grove and Hagerstown Speedway’s will see action this weekend as the second to final weekend of racing for the 2009 racing season here in Central Pennsylvania.
Kicking off with a rescheduled event Friday night, Lincoln Speedway will end its season with the 410 Sprints and the 358 Sprint car championship. The event was rained out last weekend and pushed to this week. Time trials will begin Friday at 7pm for the 358 Sprint cars.
The big event for the weekend will be the 22nd annual Octoberfest 350 at Hagerstown Speedway with all qualifying on Saturday and feature racing on Sunday. Fans can expect around 150 race cars to fill the pits at the Maryland oval for this event. Each feature pays $10,000 to win.
Should weather be an issue, most likely the track will get a late start on Saturday depending on how early the rain moves out or possibly run the entire show on Sunday. Keep checking their website for any weather updates.
Last year, Fred Rahmer won the 410 Sprint portion of the Octoberfest while other winners were Tim McCreadie (late models), Rick Laubach (small block modifieds) and Brett Hearn (big block modifieds).
Billy Pauch is the all time leading winner in Octoberfest events with two 410 Sprint car wins, four big block and one small block win in his career. Lance Dewease leads all 410 Sprint drivers with four career wins while other winners have been Greg Hodnett (three wins), Rahmer (three wins), Don Kreitz (three wins) with single wins going to Chad Layton, Dan Dietrich, Steve Kinser, Joey Allen and Steve Smith (Sr.). Layton’s win in 2002 was the last time someone other than Hodnett or Rahmer have won the big season ending event.
Williams Grove Speedway will present the annual FallFest on Saturday night featuring the 358 late models, super sportsman, 358 sprints and 410 Sprints in feature events only. Racing will begin at 7pm with the 358 late model feature first up on the program.
Hodnett has dominated FallFest action scoring four wins in the six events ran for the 410 Sprints. Hodnett won in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. Last year’s event was rained out.
