Kauffman Returns To Port Royal Victory Lane

By Brad Vores  August 9, 2009

At the age of 59, Keith Kauffman proved he can still get the job done as he captured his first win of the season Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.

The win came aboard the Mike Heffner Racing owned, Lelands.com No. 27 as Kauffman continues to fill in for injured Sean Michael, the main driver of the car.

The win was satisfying for the all time winningest driver at Port Royal as he beat his former ride now driven by Chad Layton to the checkered flag.

“That was the best car I’ve had all year,” summed up Kauffman’s thoughts on the deal. Kauffman has not talked much about his former ride.

Kauffman started sixth in the field and took the lead on lap 14 and never looked back in his 127th career Port Royal win.

Unfortunately the win came without his family in attendance as wife Kathy was attending her high school reunion, daughter Becky was at the beach and son Chase on duty with the National Guard.

Layton, of Harrisburg finished second while Greg Hodnett, of Thomasville nursed yet another ill sounding motor home in third over points leader Todd Shaffer and Rick Lafferty.
Port Royal’s Todd Snook captured his first career late model win over Scott Flickinger, Bryan Sipe, Jere Wierman and Jason Miller.
