MECHANICSBURG
Fred Rahmer called his season pathetic.
Certainly pathetic by his standards but not by a lot of
other sprint car teams in the pit area.
And Rahmer was getting a little concerned that he might not
get a win this year at Williams Grove Speedway.
But don’t fret because the streak will continue as the
Salfordville driver captured his first feature win of the
season in Sunday night’s Billy Kimmel Memorial.
Rahmer’s win continued the consecutive season win streak to
20 seasons and also moved his career win total at Williams
Grove to 80.
“Chad and Jenn (Clemens) gave us everything and Don Ott
Motors always gives us good motors but I just haven’t been
getting the job done,” said the defending track champion.
“This flat wing deal, I’m not making an excuse because
everybody else has them but I didn’t talk about it but I was
concerned that I wasn’t gonna get a win here this year. It’s
20 years in a row and I don’t think I have another 20 to
start over again so it feels good. I just have to thank Chad
to putting up for what has been a pathetic year for us but
not for lack of good equipment.”
Rahmer recently made the switch to a Maxim chassis and has
looked as fast as he has all season over the past two
weekends.
Steve Buckwalter grabbed the early lead from the front row
as Rahmer began to make his charge to the front after
starting eighth.
Todd Shaffer brought out the yellow flag with a spin on lap
eight and retired to the pits for the night.
Buckwalter’s good run ended on lap 10 when his car went up
in smoke turning the lead over to Alan Krimes with Rahmer in
second.
Krimes held a three-second advantage over Rahmer when the
yellow appeared on lap 17 for a blown motor under the hood
of Chad Layton’s car.
On the restart, Rahmer drove hard into turn one, pushing
Krimes to the wall but Krimes was able to grab the lead
going down the backstretch just as Friday night Jack Gunn
Memorial winner Daryn Pittman slowed on the front stretch
with driveline issues.
Rahmer wasted no time in driving around Krimes on the
restart and never looked back in his fourth overall win this
season in the Miller Brothers Chevrolet No. 51.
“Obviously you wish there were no memorial races but I’m
very proud to win this race,” Rahmer said. “I wish he was
still standing here with us tonight.” He became the 13th
different driver to win a feature this season at the track.
Krimes, of Denver finished in the runner-up spot ahead of
Elizabethville’s Mike Erdley, Thomasville’s Greg Hodnett and
York’s Adam Wilt.
Rounding out the top 10 were Brian Leppo, Cody Darrah, Mark
Smith, Don Kreitz, and Rick Lafferty.
With Shaffer in the pits and Smith’s eighth place finish,
Shaffer’s point lead is now just 40 points over Smith with
six point races remaining on the schedule. Three of the
point races are sanctioned by the World of Outlaws.
Lafferty, Buckwalter and Krimes were heat winners for the
26-car field. Keith Kauffman won the consolation.
For the second week in a row, Camp Hill’s Rick Barr came
out on top of Super Sportsman action as he led all 20 laps
to win Sunday night.
Barr won one of the two qualifying races and started on the
front row and never looked back in taking the win over Scott
Dellinger, Frankie Herr, Dylan Cisney, Dave Socks, Mike
Enders, Russ Mitten, Chad Criswell, Jay Fannasy and Leroy
Martin. Herr gained valuable points in the Sportsman Tour
point battle with points leader Carmen Perigo went to the
the pits with two laps remaining in the feature.
Cory Haas won the 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature after
starting in the eighth spot.
Haas’ second win of the season came over Blane Heimbach,
Mark Freeland, Chad Criswell, Billy Johns, Frankie Herr,
Scott Geesey, Nicole Bower, Eric Tomecek and Pat Cannon.
