Mother
Nature has had the upper hand all winter long.
And she continues to show her strength continuing to frustrate race
fans who are ready to see some dirt track racing.
For the second straight week, officials at Lincoln and Hagerstown
Speedway’s were forced to cancel their weekend races and it appears it
might sound like a broken record again this weekend as rain is predicted
from late Thursday into Sunday.
More wetness is not what race tracks need right now.
After melting over two feet of snow over the past few weeks, track
promoters are looking for sunny windy days to dry things out but it
appears, racing will be put on hold once again.
That means we will go right into night time racing next weekend as
Williams Grove Speedway opens on Friday while Lincoln goes to Saturday
night. Selinsgrove Speedway is also set to open next weekend.
Lincoln Speedway tried to hold out last weekend, giving some hope that
they could possibly open up for competition but parking areas didn’t
melt as much as needed to make for safe conditions.
We can hope the weather cycles take a turn for the better this season
and not like last year where rain prevailed on many weekends.
RAHMER AND THE OUTLAWS
Fast Freddie Rahmer enjoyed his first ever trip to Thunderbowl Raceway
in Tulare, California last weekend.
Rahmer finished sixth on Friday night and backed that up with a 14th to
third place in Saturday night’s event.
Jason Meyers and Joey Saldana were feature winners. Saldana’s win
pushed him into the World of Outlaws points lead.
Rahmer will head to Texas this weekend with the Outlaws as they will be
in action Friday at Lone Star Speedway and then at Houston Raceway Park
on Saturday.
Daryn Pittman, who finishes of 12th and 10th at Tulare in the Keen
Motorsports sprinter will join Rahmer in Texas as will Lance Dewease,
who is making the trek west.
The big question this week seems to be where will Rahmer end up next
weekend. Will he make the trip back to Pennsylvania or will he continue
to follow the WoO into Tennessee. We will know that answer by this time
next week.
SCHMIDLER PASSES
George Schmidler, car owner for Dan Dietrich during the 1980’s passed
away on Friday after a long bout with cancer.
Schmidler owned the George’s Auto Sales No. 28S sprinter that Dietrich
piloted during the 1987 and 1988 racing seasons. Dietrich enjoyed a lot
of success while driving for Schmidler.
He was laid to rest this week in Taneytown, MD.
