It’s hard to believe that Brian Leppo’s last win at Lincoln Speedway
came way back during the 2006 racing season.
The New Oxford driver ended that long dry slump with an impressive
win in Saturday night’s 25-lap 410 Sprint car feature at the
Abbottstown oval.
Leppo started fifth in the 24-car field, took the lead from 2009
National Rookie of the Year Adam Wilt on lap 11 and then held on
despite two late race red flags to pick up the $3,000 payday in the
Swope Salvage and Recycling, H & H General Contractors, Route 30
Seaford, Eastern Caisson, Rob Cappetta powered No. 71.
The win was the fifth of his career at Lincoln but his first there
since joining car owner Floyd Swope three seasons ago.
Leppo’s win also made it two straight wins for Mach-1 Chassis,
after Mark Smith won the opener last week in the Pigeon Hills.
Wilt settled for the runner-up spot over Stevie Smith, Alan Krimes
and Brian Montieth with Aaron Ott, Mark Smith, Brad McClelland,
Brent Marks and Johnny Mackison, Jr. the top 10 finishers.
Gino Comi picked up the win in the 20-lap thundercar feature with a
final lap pass on Will Walls for the win. Walls, Kyle Martin, Jimmy
Combs and Sam Gallagher completed the top five.
PERIGO WINS OPENER
Despite winning the 2009 Super Sportsman Tour championship, it took
Carmen Perigo, Jr. and car owner Walt Bigler all season to win a
race.
Perigo finally won the season finale at Williams Grove last season
but this season, Perigo wasted little time in returning to victory
lane as he opened the 2010 Sportsman Tour with a win Saturday at
Lincoln Speedway.
The Stoystown driver started ninth in the field and came through
the field to take control on lap seven and driving off from the
field to score the win over Gregg Foster, Scott Dellinger, Leroy
Martin and Dave Socks.
STUTTS TOPS SELINSGROVE
Liverpool’s TJ Stutts opened the 2010 Selinsgrove Speedway season
in victory lane as he powered to his 12th career win in the 25-lap
358 Sprint car feature.
Aboard the family owned Mountain View Travel No. 2T machine, Stutts
started on the front row, took the lead on lap 10 and powered away
to a 1.3 second margin of victory. It was the third time that Stutts,
who drives for John Westbrook Racing on Friday nights at Williams
Grove, won the track season opener.
Blane Heimbach finished second over Davie Franek, defending track
champion Nate Snyder and Phil Walter.
AJ Stroup topped the season opener for pro stocks, winning over
Doug Munium, Cody McFadden, Kyle Parsons and Kyle Bachman.
RINE TOPS PORT
Jeff Rine was the class of the field in Port Royal Speedway’s
opening late model feature of the year taking the 20 lap feature win
over Tim Wilson, Nick Dickson, Dan Stone and Steve Campbell.
Several new track records were established during late model
competition at the track on Saturday including a new one lap time of
19.137 seconds set by Rine during heat race action. Gary Beward set
a new eight-lap track record during his heat race with a new time of
2:28.907 seconds.
John Heane won the pro stock feature over Tim Krape, Terry Naugle,
Derick Garman and Harold Ranck.
Tyler Bear took the win in the PA 305 Sprint car 20-lap feature,
leading the final six laps in the win over Logan Wagner, who flew up
from Florida to compete this weekend.
Wagner is currently training to be a pilot. Mark Watkins was third
over Brook Weibley and Erin Statler.
DECKER WINS DIRT RACE
Billy Decker took the big paycheck in Saturday night’s 100-lap
Super DIRT Series opener at Hagerstown Speedway.
Decker used a lap 63 double file restart to power ahead of Matt
Sheppard, then kept Sheppard at bay to pick up the win. Michael
Storms finished third over Danny Johnson and Billy Dunn.
Brett Hearn won the 358 Modified Octoberfest Qualifier over
Sheppard, Stewart Friesen, Pat Ward and Rick Laubach.
PIT STOPS
Tyler Walton made it two straight in 600 Micro Sprint action at
Trail-Way Speedway after winning Saturday’s 600 Pro Series event at
the track. Walton, who also won last week’s opener, started third
and took the lead on lap 16 from Shane Lewis and held Lewis off for
the win. Mike Rutherford, Brian Carber and Tim Dietz completed the
top five.
Steve Daron was the 270 Micro Sprint winner over Pete Skias, Nik
Gower, Dave Schreiber and Phil Rupert while Mark Strickler took the
1000 Sidewinders checkered flag over Tyler Walton, Jason Morrison,
DJ Montgomery and Rohan Beasley.
York’s Rick Eckert captured his first win of the season on the
World of Outlaws late model circuit with a Friday night win at
Battleground Speedway in Texas.
The win was the first for Eckert in the new Eckert Motorsports, J &
K Salvage, York Excavating team. Eckert finished 10th Saturday night
at Lone Star Speedway. Steve Francis scored the win in that event.
