Talk
about turning your season around in a hurry.
Newville racer Russ Mitten’s 2010 season started off in a real bad
way, getting upside down in the first two Super Sportsman tour
events at Lincoln and Port Royal Speedway’s.
But since the Tour has returned to its home track-Williams Grove
Speedway-it’s been nothing but good for the veteran racer and his
car owner Trip Finkenbinder.
Last week Mitten came from 12th to finish second and Mitten went
one step better in Saturday night’s 20-lap event as he drove to his
first win of the season.
Mitten took the lead from Leroy Martin on lap five and never looked
back in scoring his third career track win, which moved him up to
sixth in points on the Sportsman tour.
Martin was second over Carlisle’s Frankie Herr, Rich Eichelberger
and Chad Criswell with points leader Carmen Perigo, Jr., Jason Fry,
Gregg Foster, Bobby Hockenberry and Rick Barr completing the top 10
finishers.
Dover’s Gene Knaub raced to his 13th career win in the 358 late
model feature after taking control on lap five and driving off to
the win over Craig Wagaman, Bobby Beard, Matt Nailor and Gene
Wrightstone.
Michael Wagner II scored the PA 305 Sprint car win at the Grove
over Mechanicsburg’s Rodney Westhafer, Nathan Gramely, Randy Kaylor
and Logan Wagner.
WINTERS SCORES HUB CITY WIN
Marvin Winters became the third different winner in as many races
this season at Hagerstown Speedway as he scored the Saturday night
late model feature win.
The McConnellsburg driver started fourth and took the lead on lap
two from Dylan Yoder and never looked back in taking his 24th career
track win.
Yoder finished in the runner-up spot over Frankie Plessinger, JT
Spence and Roy Deese, Jr.
Pete Weaver won the 20-lap late model sportsman feature over last
year’s champion Kyle Lear, Steve Axtell, Jr., Michael Collins and
Andy Fries.
Steve Lowery won the pure stock feature over Kenny Dillon with
Shippensburg’s Charlie Pensinger finishing a career best third in
the event ahead of Mike Warrenfeltz and Danny Beavers.
BAER TOPS SUSKY
Dover’s Larry Baer returned to victory lane Saturday night at
Susquehanna Speedway Park after taking the win in the 20-lap 358
late model feature.
Baer came from sixth starting spot to take control on lap five and
drove off for the win over Gary Potts, Kyle Saylor, John Moser, Jr.
and Randy Christine, Jr.
Randy Zechman led all 20 laps of the street stock feature over
Scott Thunberg, Doug Bennett, Bob Scott, Jr. and Sam Rial while
Donnie Broderick won the Xtreme Stock car main over Chris Heller and
Larry Landis.
MURPHY TAKES SIDEWINDER WIN
Ben Murphy came out on top of Saturday’s Sidewinders 1000 Micro
Sprint feature at Trail-Way Speedway.
Murphy, formerly of Enola, now living in North Carolina led all 20
laps in the win over Tyler Walton, Seth Kearchner, Mark Strickler
and DJ Montgomery.
Jim Brookens was the 600 Micro Sprint winner at the track over
Walton, Jim Young, Isaac Sneeringer and Dwayne Gutshall.
Bill Laughman took the 270 Micro Sprint win over Nik Gower, Jim
Still, Steve Daron and Mike Boyer.
OTHER WEEKEND ACTION
Justin Collett gave car owner John Pinter his first career URC
Sprint car win Saturday at Delaware International Speedway. Collett
led the entire distance in his second career URC win over Kevin
Welsh, Curt Michael, defending champ JJ Grasso and Randy West.
Friday night racing at Williams Grove, Bedford, Trail-Way and Path
Valley Speedway’s was all rained out.
Port Royal Speedway canceled Saturday citing storm damage as the
reason while Selinsgrove Speedway canceled due to cold weather.
