Not even snow showers or a late race caution could slow Lance Dewease Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.

The Fayetteville driver started ninth on the grid in Friday night’s 25-lap 410 Sprint car feature and took the lead on lap 17 and never looked back in earning his 71st career win at the Monroe Township track on a very cold April evening.

Dewease became the fourth different driver in as many races to win at the Grove this season and also earned a $500 bonus for starting ninth and taking the win. The win was worth over $4,100 for the Donny and Lisa Owens, Catoctin Motorsports team.

The feature went under red flag right away as young Derek Sell got into the first turn wall and flipped. He was not injured.

Mark Smith grabbed the early lead from his front row starting spot and held the point through the first 16 laps before giving way to Dewease, who ranks second on the track’s all-time win list.

A late race yellow for Aaron Ott was the only thing that slowed Dewease in his run to the checkered flag over Smith, of Tower City, 11th starting Greg Hodnett, of Thomasville, Aspers’ Danny Dietrich and Owasso, Oklahoma’s Daryn Pittman, up from 13th.

Rounding out the top 10 finishers were Brian Montieth, Doug Esh, Fred Rahmer, Chad Layton and Dave Ely.

Jamie Lathroum led all 35-laps to win the Three State Flyers feature over 10th starting Jason Covert, DJ Myers, Nick Dickson and Dan Stone. Lathroum won the Dash and started on the pole for the A-Main.

Dewease,  Ott and  Smith were heat winners for the 29 “410” Sprints. Brian Leppo won the consolation.

Jeff Rine, Ricky Elliott, Jeremy Miller and Jamie Lathroum were late model heat winners. The consolation was won by JT Spence. There were 35 cars pitside.

Williams Grove Speedway returns to action tonight with opening night for the Saturday Night Series featuring Super Sportsman, 358 late models, street stocks and 4-cylinders along with fireworks. Race time is 6:30pm. Then next Friday night, the 358 Sprints join the 410 Sprints on the card with a 7:30pm start.
