In what has seemed to be a season filled with bad luck, Mark
Smith finally raced to his first 410 Sprint car win of the year
Friday at Williams Grove Speedway.
Smith, of Tower City, moved from 11th into the lead on lap one
only to have that start negated when a red flag flew for a two
car crash.
Smith then raced past rookie Chris Shuttlesworth on lap 16 and
then had to hold on after a late race yellow that gave 16th
starting Fred Rahmer a shot at the top spot.
Smith was up to the challenge and drove off from Rahmer to
score his ninth career Williams Grove win in the J & B Sprints
Mach-1. Smith’s two-week old son Tristan was in attendance for
the first time.
Smith has three overall wins this season, one at Lincoln
Speedway and another in Florida during WinterNationals.
Rahmer, Don Kreitz, Jr., Chad Layton and Greg Hodnett were the
top five finishers with Doug Dodson, Aaron Ott, Alan Krimes,
Lance Dewease and Adam Wilt the top 10 finishers.
Pat Cannon started 12th in the 20-lap 358 Sprint car main and
raced past Kevin Nouse on lap 14 and drove to his second win of
the season aboard the Zane and Vicki Highlands owned No. 3.
Cannon, who is also on top of the track points won over Nouse,
Eric Tomecek, Cory Haas and Amy Ott, Steve Fannasy, TJ Stutts,
Todd Rittenhouse, Jr., Logan Schuchart and Scott Geesey.

SATURDAY NIGHT RAINOUTS

the entire slate of local racing events.
