Mark Smith Ends Slump With Grove Victory

In what has seemed to be a season filled with bad luck, Mark Smith finally raced to his first 410 Sprint car win of the year Friday at Williams Grove Speedway.

Smith, of Tower City, moved from 11th into the lead on lap one only to have that start negated when a red flag flew for a two car crash.

Smith then raced past rookie Chris Shuttlesworth on lap 16 and then had to hold on after a late race yellow that gave 16th starting Fred Rahmer  a shot at the top spot.

Smith was up to the challenge and drove off from Rahmer to score his ninth career Williams Grove win in the J & B Sprints Mach-1. Smith’s two-week old son Tristan was in attendance for the first time.

Smith has three overall wins this season, one at Lincoln Speedway and another in Florida during WinterNationals.

Rahmer, Don Kreitz, Jr., Chad Layton and Greg Hodnett were the top five finishers with Doug Dodson, Aaron Ott, Alan Krimes, Lance Dewease and Adam Wilt the top 10 finishers.

Pat Cannon started 12th in the 20-lap 358 Sprint car main and raced past Kevin Nouse on lap 14 and drove to his second win of the season aboard the Zane and Vicki Highlands owned No. 3.

Cannon, who is also on top of the track points won over Nouse, Eric Tomecek, Cory Haas and Amy Ott, Steve Fannasy, TJ Stutts, Todd Rittenhouse, Jr., Logan Schuchart and Scott Geesey.

ROHRBAUGH GETS FIRST WIN
Jeff Rohrbaugh ended his season long slump with his first 358 Sprint car feature win Friday at Trail-Way Speedway.

With the win, the three-time track champ moved back into a tie for first place on the all time track win list with Brad McClelland, who finished fourth behind Rohrbaugh, Mike Bittinger and Joe Trone, Jr. Tim Wagaman finished fifth.

Sam Gallagher won the thundercar feature while Brad Kress won the limited stocks and Doug Bennett topped the Xtreme Stocks.

ITS MILLER TIME
Jeremy Miller has struggled all season long.

Friday night, Miller took his late model to Bedford Speedway to tune it in for next week’s World of Outlaws visit and ended up leaving the track with his first win of the year after dominating the 25-lap late model main.

Miller scored the win over Matt Parks, DJ Myers, Jeff Rine and Jack Pencil.

Rick Singleton captured the limited late model feature win over Daniel Cornman, Mike Duck, Tim Smith, Jr. and Matt Howsare.

SIX PATH VALLEY WINNERS
Six different drivers graced victory lane Friday night at Path Valley Speedway Park.

Ryan McAndrew scored the 270 Micro Sprint win over Steve Whary, Levi Peck, Sean McAndrew and Colby Dice while Jesse Fitz took the 600 Micro win over Jim Brookens, Jim Young, Stan Fleming and Kameron Morral.

Mark Strickler won the Sidewinders over Mike Zelionis, Gary Funck, Joe Robertson and Jason Stahl while Geremy Sheaffer scored the Legends feature win over Rick Miller, Blaine Leppo, Scott Houdeshell and Jason Ewing.

Justin Rasp scored the thundercar win while Kevin Thomas won the mini stocks.

SATURDAY NIGHT RAINOUTS
Mother Nature had the upper hand on Saturday night wiping out the entire slate of local racing events.

Williams Grove, Selinsgrove, Port Royal, Susquehanna, Hagerstown, Trail-Way and Lincoln Speedway’s all lost racing cards due to persistent showers that covered the area.
