Dellinger Becomes Sixth Different Sportsman Winner

It’s been a trying start to the season for Scott Dellinger and his race team.

But Saturday night, the Lewisberry driver put some of the bad memories behind him as he drove to his first win of the season in the 20-lap Super Sportsman feature at Williams Grove Speedway.

Dellinger’s early season included three bent race cars and one blown motor but Saturday night, Dellinger had his No. 30 machine working to perfection as he led all 20 laps but had to hold off veteran Rich Eichelberger at the checkered flag.

The race was marred by a 10-car pileup on the start.

Dellinger built a big lead only to have lapped traffic allow Eichelberger to make it exciting at the finish but fell a car length short at the finish line. Dellinger became the sixth different winner in as many Sportsman races this season.

Last week’s winner Frankie Herr finished third over Carmen Perigo, Jr. and David Socks.

Rounding out the top 10 were Eric Eckert, Joe Biasi, John Stoner, Steve Wilbur and Stan Wanner.

Newville’s Doug Hoffman made it two straight in Grove street stock action as he came out on top of the feature.

Hoffman started fifth but took the lead on lap four but had to fend off a final late challenge by Kevin Wirt to take the win by only a half car length.

Wirt, Kevin Sigler, Craig Morgan and Don Murphy were the top five finishers.

The PA 305 Sprint and ARDC Midget features were both postponed until later dates due to rain.

MCCLELLAND BACK ON TOP
Brad McClelland returned to the top of the all time win list after winning Friday night’s 25-lap 358 Sprint feature at Trail-Way Speedway.

McClelland took the lead from Jeff Rohrbaugh on lap 14 and drove off to his 22nd career track win over Rohrbaugh, Tim Wagaman, Dale Hammaker and Randy Davis, Jr.
Rick Weaver won the thundercar feature over Brian Walls, Kyle Martin, Justin Bittle and Will Walls.

BYLER WINS FIRST FEATURE
Derek Byler moved up to the super late models this season and it didn’t take the former 358 late model standout to reach victory lane.

Byler won his first career late model main Friday night at Bedford Speedway after inheriting the lead midway through the event and never looking back.

Matt Parks was second ahead of DJ Myers up from 18th, Greg Fetters and Scott Haus.

Rance Garlock picked up the limited late model feature win over Matt Sponaugle, Donnie Farling, Rick Singleton and Matt Howsare.

OTHER WEEKEND ACTION
Gene Knaub won his first 358 late model feature of the year Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park over Kyle Saylor, Randy Christine, Jr., Mike Walls and Justin Ehrhart while Brian Hauenstein won the street stock feature over Garrett Shover, Sam Rial, George Eash and Jaynee Zeigler.

Dustin Foust was the 600 Micro Sprint winner Saturday at Shippensburg Speedway over Jim Brookens, Dustin Sheffield, Mike Holley and Tim Dietz. Other track winners included Cody Kershner in the mini stocks, Keith Armolt in the thundercars, Aaron Swope in the strictly stocks and Marrisa Layton in the Cyclones.

Selinsgrove Speedway canceled Saturday night’s racing program due to the wind while Port Royal Speedway made a late decision to cancel Saturday’s All Star Sprint program and also canceled Sunday;s All Star sanctioned Bob Weikert Memorial. Trail-Way Speedway was also canceled Saturday night.
