Five years of
frustration came to an end Friday night at Path Valley Speedway Park.
Newville micro sprint racer Timmie Barrick made the most of the final 600 Micro
sprint race of the season at the Spring Run track by capturing his first ever
win at the track.
Although Barrick had won twice early in his career at Hill Valley Speedway,
Path Valley is the track he has never been able to tame. And it’s put his family
owned team through a lot of frustration along the way.
That all ended Friday night.
He made it look easy in his first career track win. He started on the outside
front row and never looked back, leading all 20 laps to score the win. It paid
$350.
“I knew I had a heck of a chance to win it starting on the outside front row,”
said the 25-year old Barrick. “Brianna Hershey started alongside me and I knew I
could get the jump and that’s how it happened. We led the whole race. I just
concentrated on hitting my marks and I knew I would be alright.”
With his win, Barrick also wrapped up a career best third place in track
points.
“We’ve been going back to that place every Friday night for the past five years
and we came close a lot but could never drive it to victory lane,” he added. “We
went back to racing two nights a week this year and I think that actually helped
me become a better driver. But overall it’s been very frustrating for me and my
mom and dad because we’ve been fast and had some good runs but could never
finish the deal.”
Barrick didn’t get down on himself. He knew that win would come eventually.
When, he wasn’t sure.
“I consider myself a good competitor and each week things seemed to keep
getting worse for us,” he stated. “I kept telling myself that it was gonna
happen. Things are meant to be and I knew it would happen soon enough.”
And it did.
Barrick, who has had Shane Shetron, T & M Automotive, Subway Auto Body, T & T
Construction and Carolyn Sheriff Apartments on board as sponsors of the No. 7
Stallard chassis, is hoping the first win will turn into some more next season.
“Maybe this will send us into the off-season and turn things around for the
team,” he added. “We plan to get all new stuff for next year and return to the
600. Hopefully we’ll be strong.”
