The night was all about Kasey Kahne but on the track it was all about Lucas Wolfe.

Much hype and a big crowd was on hand for Wednesday night’s Kasey Kahne Foundation event at Williams Grove Speedway.

Screaming girls watched Kahne’s every move during the event and cheered him on every time he competed on the speedway.

But when it counted on the race track, it was all Wolfe, who thrilled the crowd with his bold move to take the lead then drive off from a star studded field to score the win in the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 360/358 Sprint Shootout.

Wolfe’s win was his third this season aboard the Rick Kaylor-owned Rick’s Auto Body, Kistler powered No. 13K JEI Chassis. It was worth $4,000 which included a $2,000 bonus from Ollie’s for defeating the stars of the show-Kahne and Dave Blaney.

Wolfe started the night by setting fast time over the 47-car field in time trials. His one lap time was 18.228 seconds.

It took three attempts to get the feature underway, first for a Mike Walter spin then another yellow for Pat Cannon, who crashed into the front stretch wall after contact with another car.

On the third attempt, Blaney spun and collected Kahne as well as Greg Hodnett, Blane Heimbach, Brook Weibley and Dave Calaman.

Wolfe started fourth and made a three-wide pass on Fred Rahmer and Kevin Welsh during the fifth lap and never looked back  over the remaining 20 laps of the event.

Rahmer, driving a car owned by Don Ott dropped out on lap 14 running second.

Trevor Lewis finished in the runner-up spot ahead of Welsh, Chad Layton and 19th starting Curt Michael, the defending URC point champion.

Ed Aiken was sixth with Kevin Nouse seventh in the Roger Fickett-owned racer followed by Billy Johns, Mark Bitner and Jason Clauss.

Weibley, Layton, Nouse, and Rahmer were heat race winners. The C-Main went to Frankie Herr while Kahne won an exciting B-Main.

All proceeds from the event went to the Kasey Kahne Foundation, an organization that helps chronically ill children and their families with financial donations.

Dover’s Jake Lettich captured the KRS Graphic 358 late model invitational race over Gene Knaub, Larry Baer, Mike Walls and Bob Dunn.
Williams Grove returns to action Friday night with 410 Sprints and 358 Sprints.
