Wolfe Makes It Two Straight At Lincoln

ABBOTTSTOWN

Lucas Wolfe didn’t take long to back up his first career Lincoln Speedway win.

Last week, the Mechanicsburg driver won his first ever race at Lincoln in the Keystone Cup Series event and came back strong Saturday night to win the 30-lap Weldon Sterner Memorial in the Pigeon Hills.

Lady luck in feature inversion played into Wolfe’s favor as he was able to start on the front row after one of the top qualifiers in time trials failed to make the transfer during his heat race. Wolfe had set fifth quick time and was able to start on the pole as the top four in time were inverted.

He led all 30 laps aboard Jim and Laura Allebach’s No. 5W sprinter and earned $5,000 for the win.

“We got lucky with the draw again and when you get those opportunities, you gotta take advantage of them,” said Wolfe in front of another large Saturday night crowd in the Pigeon Hills. “We were going pretty good and was able to take advantage of it tonight.”

The race started off with a red flag when four cars tangled in turn two. Darren Eash flipped his sprinter in the melee and Cody Darrah was transported to the hospital with a possible hand injury.

Wolfe jetted out front over Stevie Smith as Doug Esh raced hard for Smith for second until he spun out in turn four on the 11th lap.

It was all Wolfe on the restart until he caught the rear of the field on lap 22 allowing Smith to close in.

Chad Layton started 15th and was up to fourth when his right rear tire went flat on lap 27  bringing out a yellow flag ending a great run through the field.

Fred Rahmer was able to take advantage of the yellow and moved around Lance Dewease for third but was unable to get around Wolfe and Smith as Wolfe scored the big win for a second straight week.

“It’s important to get a good start and I don’t know if Stevie had a bad one or what but I was able to get out and run my race and try to stay focused,” he stated. “I knew it would be tough for anyone to get around me because of the way the track was. Sometimes things just work out for you and tonight was one of those nights.”

Smith, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma was second with track points leader Rahmer of Salfordville third, Dewease of Fayetteville fourth and Hodnett, of Thomasville fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 were TJ Stutts, Brian Montieth, Jim Siegel, Niki Young and Jeff Busby.

Doug Esh set fast time in time trials with a lap of 13.343 seconds. Heats went to Lucas Wolfe, Cris Eash, Chad Layton and Niki Young. The B Main was won by Greg Hodnett.

Steve Owings, Joe Trone, Jr., Jeff Rohrbaugh and Cory Haas were 358 Sprint car heat winners. Aaron Ott and Bill Dietrich won the double consolations. There were 43 cars pitside.

The 358 Sprint feature, the makeup 410 Sprint feature from April 28 and the thundercar feature were not completed at press time.

PIT STOPS…Chad Trout took a hard flip during 358 sprint heats and was transported to York Hospital with a possible shoulder injury. There was no update on Trout by press time…There was no update on Darrah at press time either…
