Eichelberger moved a little closer to becoming the all time winningest Super
Sportsman driver at Williams Grove Speedway with his first win of the season
Friday night.
The Dillsburg driver started 10th in the 24-car field and worked his way to
the front by lap 16 and drove off to capture his 10th career win at the
track. The win moves him into a tie with Mark Smith on the all time win
list. Eichelberger is just two wins shy of all time leader Larry Jackson.
Eichelberger’s win came on a night that saw all of the Super Sportsman
teams back in competition at the Grove for the first time this season.
Newville’s Russ Mitten, Jr. made his return to Williams Grove after losing
his Saturday night track and turned in a great ride coming from the 12th
starting spot to finish second.
Summerdale’s J.R. Fry drove the Daine Hursh owned machine from 11th to
third ahead of John Stehman and Leroy Martin. Points leader Frankie Herr, of
Carlisle finished 22nd after being black flagged for rough riding according
to speedway officials.
Dover’s Larry Baer captured the 20-lap 358 late model win over Gene Knaub,
Bobby Beard, Mike Walls and Jake Lettich. Newville’s Dave Sokoloski finished
ninth.
Harrisburg’s Kory Sites captured the street stock feature win over Todd
Snook, Randy Patterson, Randy Allen and Adam Gutshall while Wellsville’s
John Stoll, Jr. took the win in the 4-cylinder feature over Ed Hollenbach,
John Henry, Frank Grubic and Kevin Thomas.
HODNETT WINS AGAIN AT LINCOLN
While Lucas Wolfe won the main event on Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway
when he won the Weldon Sterner Memorial, Greg Hodnett came back to win the
makeup 410 Sprint feature that was rained out on April 28.
Hodnett started third and went out front on lap one and then had pressure
from Stevie Smith for most of the 25 lap distance but kept Smith at bay to
record his 19th career win in the Pigeon Hills and his third there this
year.
Smith, who also finished second in the Sterner race was second over Fred
Rahmer, Doug Esh and Cris Eash. Enola’s Bob Howard finished 10th.
Cory Haas was declared the winner of the 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature
after apparent winner Steve Owings was stripped win after a post race
protest of his top wing. The wing was deemed illegal and the win given to
Haas, his first this season.
Jeff Rohrbaugh, Glenndon Forsythe, Dale Hammaker and Adrian Shaffer were
the top five finishers. Dillsburg’s Scott Geesey was seventh, Dillsburg’s
John Westbrook 11th, Dillsburg’s Todd Spangler 16th, Enola’s Elvin Diller
III 17th, Mechanicsburg’s Derek Locke 19th and Mechanicsburg’s Todd Reed
23rd.
Duane Watson was the thundercar winner over Nat Tuckey, Smoke Christine, Al
Crammer and Craig Wagaman.
HEIMBACH ENDS SLUMP
Blane Heimbach ended a winless streak by capturing his first 25-lap 358
Sprint car feature win of the year Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The defending champion took the lead at the halfway mark of the feature and
never looked back in taking his 19th career track win over early leader
Larry Kelleher, Jeff Furlong, Nate Snyder and Len Krautheim. Carlisle’s
Jason Shultz was seventh while Pat Cannon was 13th after hitting the wall
while running third. Carlisle’s Dave Calaman was 23rd.
Tony Adams captured the late model feature win over Jeff Rine, Coleby Frye,
Donnie Schick and Jim Yoder while Gary Beward won a third pro stock main
over Meade Hahn and Frank Reisser and Donnie Murphy made it six wins in
roadrunner action over Zach Lingle and Cory Long.
SHEPARD TOPS PORT
Jeff Shepard raced to his first win of the year in 410 Sprint car action
Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.
Shepard took the lead on lap 25 and went onto win the Pete Swarmer
Memorial.
Mark Smith came from 13th to finish second over Keith Kauffman, Craig Keel
and Kevin Nouse with Todd Shaffer seventh in the Beam Racing owned car.
Scott Flickinger captured his second 20-lap late model feature win of the
year over Mike Hess, Jere Wierman, Travis Dillman and Steve Campbell while
Tim Krape took another pro stock win over Derick Garman and Terry Naugle.
HAGERSTOWN OUTLAWS TO BABB
Shannon Babb made his first ever visit to Hagerstown Speedway a memorable
one as he took the win in Saturday night’s World of Outlaws late models
sanctioned Conococheague 50.
He led all 50 laps for the $10,000 win for his fourth win on the WoO tour
in 2007.
York Haven’s Jason Covert had a great runner-up finish over Clint Smith,
Chub Frank and Josh Richards. Other Hagerstown regulars inside the top 10
were Gary Stuhler in eighth and Bo Feathers in ninth.
OTT WINS FIRST
Aaron Ott raced to his first ever win in Friday night 358 Sprint car action
at Trail-Way Speedway.
Ott, the son of famed motor builder Don Ott and not even old enough to
drive on the highway held off the best of Trail-Way for that first win. Ott,
who will run 410 sprints in 2008 led the final 22 laps over Brad McClelland,
Jeff Rohrbaugh, Mike Bittinger and Danny Dietrich. Enola’s Nicole Bower was
11th.
Craig Wagaman (thundercars) and Dan Furman (Street Stocks) were other
feature winners.
GRAVES TOPS SUSKY
Carl Graves took the lead just past the halfway mark and never looked back
in his first 358 late model win of the year Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway
Park.
Graves won over Gene Wrightstone with Carlisle drivers Scott Richwine and
Carl Billet third anf fourth. Fifth went to Sterling Kinard.
Carlisle’s Brian Hauenstein picked up his second street stock win of the
season at SSP over Newville’s Wes Alleman, Steve Dove, Paul Morgan and Joey
Hoffer.
Bob Bender, Jr. won the Xtreme Stock main over Ray Broderick and Mike
Goodwin with Shippensburg’s Charlie Pensinger 11th.
MURPHY TOPS PATH VALLEY
Purdue University student Jake Murphy raced to the 600 Micro Sprint car
feature win Friday at Path Valley Speedway Park.
Murphy’s first win of the season came over Heath Hehnly, Tim Glatfelter,
Newville’s Timmie Barrick and Jim Young. Mechanicsburg’s Chad Hough was
eighth while Carlisle’s Greg Kone was 11th.
Hehnly won the 270 Micro sprint main over Sean McAndrew, Jason Houtz, Tom
Tice and Ryan McAndrew.
Randy Kissinger was the Legend car winner while Tim Burkholder won the mini
stocks and John Rasp won the thundercar.
OTHER WEEKEND RESULTS
Spring Grove High School Senior Isaac Sneeringer gave himself a great
graduation gift with his first career 600 Micro Sprint main over fellow
classmate Tim Glatfelter Saturday at Trail-Way Speedway. Robbie Kendall,
Shippensburg’s Dwayne Gutshall and Brent Marks were the top five. Barrick
was 24th.
Nik Gower was the 270 winner over Matt Kiefert, Mike Boywe, Todd Hoover and
Steve Daron.
Curt Michael had a winning weekend with a Friday night non-sanctioned 360
Sprint car win at the Georgetown Speedway over Chris Coyle.
Michael came back strong Saturday for his second URC Series win at Delaware
International Speedway over Kevin Welsh, points leader Justin Collett, Andy
Hannula and Mark Bitner.
David Gravel was the 600 Micro Sprint winner on Eichelberger U-Pull-It
Night at Hill Valley Speedway Saturday night. Jim Young, Jake Murphy, Travis
Saner and Tim Dietz, who started 21st in the Dan Little owned machine were
the top five with Kone ninth, Hough 12th and Carlisle’s Dave Thrush 23rd.
Dusty Foust was the 600 Micro Sprint winner at Shippensburg Speedway over
Carlisle’s Brandon Yarlett, Marcus Defrietas, Jeff Halligan and Zack Newlin.
Other track winners were Chris Smith (thunder rear), Billy Jago (Cyclones),
Mike Buckley (mini stocks), Shane Zinn (4-cylinder) and Michael Taylor
(6-cylinders).
