Brent Smith Wins Biggest Career Race At Hagerstown

Brent Smith put on a dominating performance in Saturday night’s 42nd annual Johnny Roberts Memorial at Hagerstown Speedway.

 Smith, of Mercersburg went out front on the fifth lap and never looked back in the 50-lap test. It was his second career win at the Hub City oval, who got his start at the track racing in the former roadrunner division before moving into the limited late models and then into the super late models.

 Smith opened up big leads during the event but several cautions kept Andy Anderson tucked right in behind. Smith’s margin of victory was over two seconds at the checkered flag. The win was worth $2,500.

 Anderson finished second over Ronnie DeHaven, Loysville’s Travis Dillman and track points leader Bo Feathers. Shermansdale’s Mike Lupfer did not qualify for the event.

 Cody Lear captured the late model sportsman main over Steve Axtell, Barry Miller, Kyle Lear and Andy Fries. Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard was the Hard Charger finishing sixth.

 Mike Warrenfeltz won the pure stock feature over Dean Holmes and Tony Stoneberger.


HERR TOPS PORT ROYAL FIELD
 Carlisle’s Frankie Herr raced to his fifth win of the season on the Super Sportsman circuit with a Saturday night victory at Port Royal Speedway.

 Herr’s win also moved him back on top of the Sportsman tour points.

 He started 12th in the field and tracked down leader Steve Fannasy on the 17th lap for the win.

 Fannasy finished second ahead of Danny Hager, John Stehman and Leroy Martin.

 Summerdale’s JR Fry was eighth, Newville’s Russ Mitten ninth, Mechanicsburg’s Steve Wilbur 12th, Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger 19th and Summerdale’s Jason Fry 24th.

 Scott Haus raced to his third 20-lap late model win at the Port after taking control of the event on lap 14.

 Jere Wierman placed second over Eric Zembower, Tim Wilson and Jeff Bryner.

 Tim Krape won for a 10th time in pro stock action over Terry Naugle and Todd Snook while Ralph Morgan, Jr. was the 4-cylinder stock winner over Ronnie Garlock and Dave Leidy.


KELLEHER RETURNS TO WINNERS CIRCLE
 It didn’t take Larry Kelleher as long to win his second career feature.

 After winning for the first ever time two weeks at Selinsgrove Speedway, the Scranton driver backed that win up with his second in Saturday night 358 Sprint car action at the track.

 Kelleher started eighth and raced his way into the top spot with 18 laps complete.

 Points leader Blane Heimbach finished second ahead of John Matrafailo, Mike Walter and Colby Womer. Pat Cannon was sixth in the Highlands owned sprinter. Carlisle’s Jason Shultz finished 14th after dropping out running in the top five and Dave Calaman was 17th after dropping out.

 Donnie Schick captured his second 25-lap late model win over Jeff Rine, Jeff Smith, Nick Dickson and Bobby Stokes.

 Gary Beward picked up the pro stock win over Lon Savage, Jr. and Troy Miller while Dave Kamp won the roadrunners over Cory Long and Doug Minium, Sr.


BITTINGER WINS FIRST
 It was a good week for Mike Bittinger.

 The Abbottsotwn racer scored his first win of the year in Friday night’s 358 Sprint car main at Trail-Way Speedway, just two days after becoming a first time father.

 Bittinger dominated the race, leading the final 15 laps over Brad McClelland, Bill Dietrich, Ron Kramer and Jeff Young.

 Craig Wagaman scored the thundercar win over Bob Stough and Larry Neiderer while Randy May won the street stock event over Seth Kearchner and Ron Vance.

 Rick Sheppard won Saturday night’s 270 Micro Sprint main at Trail-Way over Ryan McAndrew, Mike Boyer, Jim Still and Cody Phillips while Sean Campbell topped the 1000cc Sidewinders over Jason Morrison, Jesse Snyder, Donnie Hendershot and Shawn Seifert with Carlisle’s Rohan Beasley seventh.


OTHER WEEKEND ACTION
 Kramer Williamson won for the first time this year in URC Sprint action Saturday at Delaware International Speedway. The win was his 64th career and it came over Trevor Lewis, Curt Michael, Randy West and Jamie Bodo.

 Jim Young topped Path Valley Speedway 600 Micro action Friday night over Jim Brookens, Kevin Steele, Ryan Greth and Duane Harbaugh. Enola’s Jake Murphy finished seventh, Newville’s Timmie Barrick 10th, Dillsburg’s Brianna Hershey 11th and  Carlisle’s Greg Kone 18th.   

 Ryan McAndrew took the 270 Micro win over his brother Sean, Tom Tice, Chad Thomas and Jesse Howell.

 Ryan Greth won the 600 Open over Mike Dicely and Kevin Steele while Rick Potts and Randy Kissinger split the double Legend car features. Other track winners were Adam yetter in the super stocks, Ricky Harper in the mini stocks and Lyle Barnes in the thundercars.

 Duncannon’s Mike Holley won for the second time Saturday night in Shippensburg Speedway 600 Micro Sprint competition over Ryan Hook, John Baker, Bo Gordon and Zack Newlin.

 Other Shippensburg winners were Keith Arnolt in thundercars, Ron Bloom in the cyclones, Cody Kershner in mini stocks, Chas Clouser in 6-cylinders and Ryan McGill in 4-cylinders.
