ABBOTTSTOWN
Jeff Busby has been dreaming about winning a 410 Sprint car feature
at Lincoln Speedway for a long time.
And his dream finally came through Saturday night as he captured his
first ever win at the track in the 25-lap Daryl Gohn/Glenn Gohn Sr
Memorial race.
Busby makes the long tow every weekend from his Bridgeville,
Delaware to the Pigeon Hills and came out on top of a thrilling
feature event in front of another big Saturday night crowd.
“We finally made it,” said Busby after collecting $3,000 for the
win. “I’ve been thinking about this a lot but most of the time I
just clam up and don’t know what to say. I just want to thank
everyone.”
Busby started fourth but it was Mechanicsburg’s Doug Dodson grabbing
the lead at the start and led until the third lap when Josh Wells
spun in turn one.
Dodson led lap four but gave way to Busby on the fifth circuit.
Dodson went back out front on the next lap but it was Busby taking
the lead on lap seven and never looking back.
The final caution of the event came out on lap eight when Joe Ilg
spun in turn one.
Alan Krimes moved into second spot on lap 10 and held that spot as
Fred Rahmer moved into the third spot on lap 11 and appeared ready
to challenge for the lead.
Busby worked through lapped traffic like a veteran and had a close
call with the lapped car of Don Slack in turn one during the 16th
lap.
Krimes nearly snuck under Busby for the top spot after that close
call but Busby managed to keep his JOB Construction No. 47J ahead
and was able to maintain his lead to win by 1.14 seconds at the
checkered flag.
“If it wasn’t for my brother and Shawn Norris, we wouldn’t be here
tonight,” Busby said of Norris, who has been crew chief on the car
since last season. “It seems we always have some sort of bad luck
here but tonight things worked out our way.”
Niki Young, of East Berlin made a last race charge to finish in the
runner-up spot in a brand new Denny Neiderer owned entry.
Krimes, of Denver settled for the third spot with Lancaster’s Doug
Esh getting around Rahmer, of Salfordville for the fourth spot on
the final lap.
Completing the top 10 were Chad Layton, Cris Eash, Jim Siegel, Greg
Hodnett and Brian Leppo.
Young, Krimes and Dodson won heats for the 27-car field with Brian
Montieth winning the consolation.
After several cautions and a red on the first lap, Jimmy Bewley led
the first two laps of the 20-lap 358 sprint car feature before
disaster struck on the third lap.
Brad McClelland made contact with Bewley at the flagstand sending
Bewley into a violent series of flips into turn one.
McClelland went onto score the win, his first of the year at the
track as he became the seventh different winner in seven events .
Cory Haas, Steve Owings, Jeff Rohrbaugh and Dale Hammaker were the
top five.
Nat Tuckey scored another win in thundercar action over Mike
Zeigler, Jr. and Neil Smith.
Heats for the 46 358 Sprints were won by Dale Hammaker, Mike Ressler,
Aaron Ott and Paul Hively III. The double consolations went to Chad
Jumper and Jeff Rohrbaugh.
