Jake Murphy Sweeps 600 Micro Weekend

Murphy is making the most of his summer away from Purdue University.
The Enola racer swept the weekend in 600 micro sprint racing by taking a
Friday night win at Path Valley Speedway then coming home the winner
Saturday at Trail-Way Speedway.
It was his first weekend sweep of the season in his family owned, Easy Does
It Vacations No. 18.
Murphy kicked off the weekend with his second win of the year at Path
Valley as he led the entire distance from the front row. Murphy worked
lapped traffic to perfection and took the win over Heath Hehnly, Aaron Spahr,
Jim Brookens and Mechanicsburg’s Chad Hough. Dillsburg’s Brianna Hershey
finished 12th and Newville’s Timmie Barrick 15th.
Murphy put on a passing marathon at Trail-Way, starting 12th and coming to
the front to take the lead with 14 laps complete and drove off from the
field for his first win of the year at the track.
Isaac Sneeringer was second over Rick Stief, Kyle Moody and Mt Holly’s
Ricky Stonebraker. Hershey was eighth and Hough ninth.
EICHELBERGER WINS SECOND
Dillsburg’s Aaron Eichelberger captured his second win of the year in Super
Sportsman tour racing Saturday at Trail-Way.
Eichelberger led the entire distance but had 12th starting Frankie Herr, of
Carlisle to contend with over the final laps before taking the win.
Herr, Duaine Smith, Mechanicsburg’s Dave Berkheimer and Bobby Hockenberry
were the top five. Carlisle’s Jake Raudabaugh finished 14th, Summerdale’s JR
Fry 16th, Mechanicsburg’s Steve Wilbur 17th and Newville’s Russ Mitten 24th.
ARMSTRONG HAS A BIG WEEKEND
Young St. Thomas racer Tyler Armstrong also had a big weekend.
Armstrong swept the “Trail-Way/Williams Grove 358 late model Shootout” with
wins at both tracks. He had four overall wins this season, three at Williams
Grove.
Armstrong led all way both nights for the wins.
Bobby Beard finished second at Trail-Way ahead of Mike Walls,
Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard and Darryl Burkholder. Shermansdale’s Shaun Jones
placed seventh and Newville’s Dave Sokoloski 10th.
Terry Flaherty was runner-up to Armstrong at the Grove followed by Shaun
Jones, Pat Beard and Jerry Bard. Sokoloski was 11th.
Mechanicsburg’s Bob Gutshall was the street stock winner at Williams Grove
over Kory Sites, Rodney Clouser, Eric Johnston and Randy Patterson while
Larry Stine topped 4-cylinder competition over John Stoll, Jr. and Kevin
Thomas.
Craig Wagaman was the thundercar winner at Trail-Way while Carlisle’s
Clouser won the street stock feature. Wagaman won the thundercar/street
stock challenge.
RICHWINE TAKES FOURTH WIN
Carlisle’s Scott Richwine raced to this fourth 358 late model win of the
year Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park.
Richwine took the lead on lap three and drove to the win over Carlisle’s
Carl Billet, Shermansdale’s Jake Jones, Billy Wampler and Charles Potts.
Alan Sagi picked up the $2,000 payday in the first visit by the super late
models to SSP in nearly 20 years. Sagi’s win came over Jason Covert, Kirk
Ryan, Dan Stone and Brian Booze. Shermansdale’s Mike Lupfer placed eighth
and Richwine 19th.
Matt Wampler won the Xtreme Stock feature over Mike Goodwin with
Shippensburg’s Charlie Pensinger seventh.
SMITH WINS AT THE PORT
Mark Smith dominated Saturday night 410 Sprint car action at Port Royal
Speedway.
Smith’s win was his fourth of the season and ended a dry spell of bad luck
and breakdowns in the Mark Coldren-owned sprinter.
Smith’s 25th career Port Royal win came over hard charging Mike Wagner,
Todd Shaffer in the Gary and Patty Beam owned machine, Lance Dewease and
Judi Bates. Kevin Nouse finished sixth in the Bryan Golden owned sprinter.
Scott Haus won for the fourth time in late model competition over Steve
Campbell, Brent Smith, Mike Hess and Tim Wilson.
Tim Krape won another pro stock feature over Terry Naugle and John Heane.
SCHATZ WINGS KINGS ROYAL
Donny Schatz time trialed 24th, started on the pole of his heat, won the
dash and drove home the winner of the $50,000 payday in Saturday’s Kings
Royal at Eldora Speedway.
Despite winning all of the other big sprint car races around the country
during his career, this one eluded him until this season.
Jason Meyers, Terry McCarl, Jason Solwold and Joey Saldana. Mechanicsburg’s
Lucas Wolfe finished 20th in the race.
Steve Kinser won Friday’s Night before the Kings Royal World of Outlaw
event over McCarl, Schatz, Meyers and Saldana.
OTHER WEEKEND RESULTS
Brad McClelland won the 20-lap 358 sprint car feature Saturday at Lincoln
Speedway.
The race was not complete at press time for Sunday’s paper.
His win came over Cory Haas, Steve Owings, Jeff Rohrbaugh and Dale Hammaker.
Mechanicsburg’s Todd Reed was 15th, Dillsburg’s Todd Spangler 17th.
Nat Tuckey won for the eighth time in thundercar action.
Bo Gordon topped Shippensburg Speedway 600 Micro sprint action Saturday
over Dusty Sheffield, Chris Crull, John Baker and Kenny Harris. Carlisle’s
Dave Thrush was 14th.
Other Shippensburg winners were Lyle Barnes in thundercars, Ron Bloom in
the cyclones, Eddie Kirby in mini stocks, Shane Zinn in 4-cylinders and Mike
Taylor in 6-cylinders.
Michael Carber won for the second time in URC Sprint action Saturday at New
Egypt Speedway ahead of URC points leader Curt Michael, JJ Grasso, Dave
Betts and Brian Seidel.
Scott Houdeschell was the Legend car winner at Path Valley on Friday while
Brian Marriott topped 270 Micro Sprint action, Ricky Harper won in the mini
stocks, Mike Grove in thundercars and Dave Dunkle in Super Stocks.
