HAGERSTOWN, MD
Lance Dewease wouldn’t mind at all if every race of Pennsylvania Speedweek took place at Hagerstown Speedway.

For the third straight year, the Fayetteville driver visited victory lane during Hagerstown’s Speedweek race.

Last night, Dewease led every lap and was able to cruise to his 17th career win during the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Speedweek series.

His win also meant a lot.

“My dad died a couple of months ago and we’ve been trying like hard to win of these things, so this one is for my Dad,” he said following the $5,000 win. “I had the birth of my son which was a lovely thing in my life then my dad died so within a month, I had the highs and lows of life. It means a lot to win here tonight for him because this is where he brought me and I grew up.”

Like the story has been all season, Dewease took full advantage of his front row starting spot and turned it into his third overall win this year in the Pete Postupack-owned, Wirtgen No.25.

“We had a really good starting spot and that seems like that’s how it’s been the whole year for everybody,” he said. “You have to start up front to win these things and we timed eighth and a couple of guys had misfortunes and we were able to take advantage.”

A red flag quickly slowed the field when Mike Wagner and Kevin Nouse crashed in turn one of the initial start.

Dewease grabbed the lead over Stevie Smith and set sail while Smith had his hands full with Mechanicsburg’s Lucas Wolfe. Wolfe took second from Smith on the 21st in heavy lapped traffic.

Two late race yellows on laps 26 and 28 kept Wolfe close but Dewease was able to drive to the victory.

Racing was delayed starting by 1.5 hours after humidity played a part in the heavily watered track then the track’s lighting system went down right before the start of the feature, causing another delay. The checkered flag fell just before 12:30 a.m. this morning.

Wolfe, Stevie Smith, ninth starting Fred Rahmer and Greg Hodnett were the top five followed by TJ Stutts, Craig Keel, Brian Leppo, Chad Layton and Alan Cole.

Leppo set quick time over the 33-car field with a lap of 15.278 seconds.

Stevie Smith, Mark Smith and Wolfe were heat race winners. Stevie Smith set a new 10-lap track record breaking the old mark set by Mark Kinser. Rahmer also set a new 12-lap track record in his B-Main win. Rahmer’s team changed motors after dropping out of his heat race.

Doug Esh had a part failure on his race car during time trials and crashed hard into the third turn fence. The car was destroyed but Esh didn’t suffer any major injuries in the violent crash.

Wolfe moved on top of the Speedweek points with 576 points over Hodnett’s 568. Stevie Smith (538), Dewease (483), Todd Shaffer (431), Layton (430), Leppo (429), Stutts (325) and Rahmer (318) are the top 10.

Pennsylvania Speedweek moves to Port Royal Speedway tonight with a 7 p.m. starting time.
