Fred Rahmer used a lap 13 restart to his advantage and then raced Doug
Esh hard for a lap before taking control of the race and driving away
from Esh to score the 25-lap 410 Sprint car win Saturday at Lincoln
Speedway.
The win was the second straight night the Salfordville racer won
despite a tailbone injury suffered last weekend in Knoxville, Iowa.
Rahmer won the first Triple 20 feature on Friday at Williams Grove
Speedway.
Rahmer’s fourth win of the season at Lincoln solidified his hold on the
track point battle with just a few points races remaining. His title
will be his 10th career in the Pigeon Hills.
“I want to win the points so I gotta do what I gotta do,” said Rahmer
following his 152nd career Lincoln win. “It would mean a lot to get the
title again.”
Young Aaron Ott led the first six laps before AJ Michael spun in turn
one.
Ryan Taylor, another young gun in the 410 ranks drove by Ott on the
restart for the top spot as 10th starting Esh moved into the runner-up
spot on lap eight.
Esh pressured Taylor before making his move on the 11th lap, when he
drove Taylor high in turn four, resulting in Taylor spinning out and
rejoining the rear of the field.
Rahmer, who started 11th was third on the restart and then when Ott
spun on lap 12, Rahmer moved right on Esh’s bumper.
Greg Hodnett moved alongside Rahmer going down the backstretch on lap
13 but was pinched in the third turn by Rahmer, resulting in Hodnett
spinning and also collecting Brian Leppo, who had moved from 18th into
fifth.
Rahmer and Esh raced hard for the top spot on lap 14 with Rahmer going
out front on lap 15 and never looking back. Esh never managed a
challenge on Rahmer and finished a distant second.
“I never figured I’d be able to get to him and I didn’t think I’d be
able to hold up on the rough track, but we were able to get the job
done,” he said. “I had a run on Doug in one and was able to get by him
and I just ran as hard as I could.”
Steve Buckwalter finished in the third spot ahead of Alan Krimes and
Cris Eash.
Jim Siegel finished sixth ahead of TJ Stutts, Niki Young, Brian
Montieth with Hodnett rebounding for a 10th place finish.
Gene Knaub took the lead from Jake Lettich during the late stages of
the 25-lap 358 late model feature and drove to his second straight win
in the Pigeon Hills.
Lettich held on for the runner-up spot ahead of Mike Spangler, Dave
Sokoloski and Travis Mease.
Completing the top 10 finishers were Tyler Hershey, Bobby Beard, Shaun
Jones, Daryl Burkholder and Mike Walls.
Heats for the 29 410 Sprints were won by Johnny Mackison, Jr., Greg
Hodnett and Doug Esh. Steve Clabaugh actually won the second heat but
was disqualified due to not having the track spec tire mounted on the
car. The consolation was won by Joe Ilg.
Tyler Armstrong, Jake Lettich and Dave Sokoloski won the heats for the
28 358 late models with Bernie Beard winning the consolation.
There were 410 INEX Legend cars pitside.
Lincoln returns to action next Saturday night with Twin 20’s for 410
Sprints on Central Maryland Pools night along with the 358 sprints and
thundercars. It will be the final 7:30pm start of the season in the
Pigeon Hills.
