Pat Cannon returned to Selinsgrove Speedway Saturday and left $5,000 richer
after dominating the 30-lap Paul Stine Chevrolet 358 Sprint Summer
Nationals.
Aboard the Zane and Vicky Highlands owned No. 3, Cannon took the lead from
Joey Borich on lap nine and drove off from the field, winning by over six
seconds in the Highlands Tire and Service Centers, H & H Chevrolet, Newville
Construction Services, Boiling Springs Service Center sponsored sprinter.
Cannon lapped all but four cars in the feature.
The win was the ninth overall of the season for the Etters driver.
Carlisle’s Dave Calaman rode home in the runner-up spot ahead of Borich,
Mike Walter and Sean Michael. Carlisle’s Jason Shultz finished seventh.
Brad Trump took the win in the pro stock main while Donnie Murphy scored
another roadrunner win.
KEEL WINS FIRST
New York driver Craig Keel gave up the lead to Mark Smith momentarily
Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway but made a bold move work on the same
lap and drove off for his first 25-lap 410 Sprint car win of the year at the
track.
Keel took the lead from Jay Reichard on lap 17 but then had to fend off
challenges by Smith before taking the win over Smith, Lance Dewease, Todd
Shaffer and Mechanicsburg’s Lucas Wolfe.
Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger topped the 20-lap Super Sportsman Tour event
after leading the final seven laps of the event for his fourth win of the
year.
Danny Hager, Newville’s Russ Mitten, Bobby Hockenberry and Mike Enders were
the top five finishers.
Mitch Hack captured his first late model win of the year at the Port taking
the win in the fourth annual Butch Renninger Memorial ahead of Scott Haus,
Tim Wilson, Scott Flickinger and Mike Hess.
Dan Berry took pro stock honors over Jim Palm, Terry Naugle, Tim Krape and
Todd Snook.
WIN NUMBER SIX FOR BILLET
Carlisle’s Carl Billet scored his sixth 358 late model win of the season
Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park.
Billet, who appears to be headed to the SSP track championship went out
front on lap 17t and took the win over Carlisle’s Scott Richwine, Richard
Walls, Charles Potts and Bud Witmer.
Steven Dove took his first win of the year in the street stock main over
Newville’s Wes Alleman, Dustin Hollinger, Todd Bowersox and Chad Smith.
Chris Heller was the Xtreme Stock car winner while Grant Adams topped
4-cylinder stock car action.
BOOZE TOPS HAGERSTOWN
Marion’s Brian Booze raced away with the big $2,500 payday in Saturday’s
Ernie’s 25 Special for late models at Hagerstown Speedway.
Booze led the entire distance to collect another $625 in lap money and
scored his first win of the year over Alan Sagi, J. T. Spence, Marvin
Winters and Al Shawver, Jr.
Veteran driver Kramer Williamson started on the pole and wired the field to
win the 25 lap URC Sprint car feature at the Hub City oval. It was the first
appearance by the URC tour in 10 years at the track.
Points leader Curt Michael came on strong late for a runner-up finish ahead
of Josh Weller, Jason Clauss and J.J. Grasso.
RICHWINE DOUBLES AT PATH VALLEY
Carlisle’s Scott Richwine made it two straight wins at Path Valley Speedway
in 358 late model action on Friday.
Richwine, who won the first race a few weeks ago at the track, backed it up
with his second win which came over Rance Garlock, Tim Fedder,
Shermansdale’s Shaun Jones and Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard.
Mike Freet won the 305 Sprint car main at Path Valley over Craig Robinson,
Dale Thomas, Michael Wagner and Wes Zimmerman while Jim Young scored the 600
Micro Sprint win over Enola’s Jake Murphy, Heath Hehnly, Aaron Spahr and
Ryan Greth.
Sean McAndrew won the 270 Micros over Justin Grosz, Colby Dice, Steve Whary
and Tom Tice.
Other track winners were Donnie Hendershot (Sidewinders 1000cc), Frank
Gordon (mini stocks) and John Rasp (thundercars).
OTHER WEEKEND ACTION
Susquehanna Speedway postponed Sunday night’s 358 Sprint/ARDC Midget
program because of rain. The track will announce a makeup date later this
week.
Danny Dietrich won Friday night’s 358 Sprint car feature at Trail-Way
Speedway. No other results were made available for either Friday or
Saturday’s racing by press time Sunday.
Selinsgrove star Blane Heimbach was released from Milton S. Hershey Medical
Center Saturday evening after suffering a broken leg Friday night at
Williams Grove Speedway in the first Triple 20 feature event.
After several attempts at setting and resetting the leg, Heimbach’s right
leg is in cast from his buttocks down to his toes and it will be eight to
ten weeks until he can put any weight on the leg.
Heimbach was the points leader at Selinsgrove Speedway in the 358 Sprint
division.
