Nobody Asked me
But…
The Cindy Rowe Auto Glass 410 Sprint car points at Williams Grove Speedway has
been a good battle and right now only 395 points separate the top four drivers.
With that being said, as I stated in a past column, who would have thought Todd
Shaffer would be the points leader. Shaffer has had a great season at the Grove
this year and certainly seems rejuvenated more than ever.
And with that being said, it would be great to see Gardners residents Gary and
Patty Beam crowed the championship owners at the Grove. Their first and last
Grove title came 12 years ago in 1995.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see the Hamilton Motorsports No. 77 sprint car on the
track again.
Congratulations to Carlisle’s Dave Calaman and the Godfrey Brothers sprint team
on their Selinsgrove Speedway 358 sprint championship.
Hopefully Blane Heimbach’s broken leg is healing nicely that he suffered at
Williams Grove. Heimbach was headed to the Selinsgrove title prior to his bad
luck.
It would be awesome if a driver could win the $30,000 offered for the 358 late
model race on September 29 at Susquehanna Speedway.
Can a Williams Grove regular win the National Open again this year?
It’s pretty cool that the World of Outlaws points are so close between Donny
Schatz and Joey Saldana heading into the final month of racing. Next year, both
drivers will be aboard JEI Chassis.
It’s good to see Jason Covert back on top of the MACS late model series points.
Covert was re-crowned the King of the Knob last week with another win at Roaring
Knob Motorsports Complex.
I’m sure it was a pretty exciting Friday last week for 16-year old Tyler
Hershey, who won the Williams Grove 358 late model championship. He is the
youngest track champ ever at the track.
The 358 late models are a very competitive series. Proof is the final points at
Lincoln where the top four were separated by 25 total points. Congrats to Shaun
Jones on that championship.
Fred Rahmer can be proud of his 2007 season at Lincoln Speedway where he became
the track;s all time leading winner and also the all time leader in track
championships. He wrapped up his 10th career title a few weeks ago.
There is always buzz about whether or not the Williams Grove National Open
should be a points race. What do you think?
The Trail-Way points for the 358 Sprints is also very close with Jeff Rohrbaugh
and Danny Dietrich. It’s been a good season for both drivers.
The Sportsman 100 sponsored by Lawrence Chevrolet is up next on Lincoln
Speedway’s schedule. While I don’t attend the event, most say it’s just not the
same as it used to be.
Per the above, the long awaited Wegman’s store is set to open on the former
home of the beloved Silver Spring Speedway.
This weekend’s Hub City 150 for late models at Hagerstown Speedway is a neat
setup for the racers and the fans. Hopefully they get a big crowd.
Speaking of Hagerstown, it’s just over a month until the season finale
Octoberfest 350. Last year, Greg Hodnett won the 410 Sprints portion. It’s not
usually a good race but it’s the last one until February for most people.
It’s good to hear some local teams are headed to the Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor
Speedway in November for the World of Outlaws event. So far, we’ve heard Hodnett,
Esh and Dewease are headed south.
Stevie Smith is headed to Ohio’s Fremont Speedway and barring any troubles, he
very easily could be bringing $15,000 back to New Oxford on Sunday!
But will meetings among the sprint car ranks get things changed at Williams
Grove Speedway? Topics up for discussion include track conditions, the tire
rule, handicapping and the World of Outlaws events. Stay tuned on this one
folks.
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for the season to be over.
WHATS HAPPENING
Selinsgrove Speedway is the big 410 Sprint car show in town this weekend with
the Selinsgrove Ford/Selinsgrove Speed and Fab National Open. The race pays
$10,000 for the 30 lap distance. It’s the final race of the 2007 season at the
Snyder County oval.
Lincoln Speedway will feature the Sportsman 100 along with the street stocks
and thundercars.
The 410 Sprints and 358 Sprints are on tap Friday at Williams Grove while the
358 Sprints headline another Friday show at Trail-Way.
The 358 late models are scheduled tomorrow night at Path Valley along with the
micro sprints while Susquehanna has a regular 358 late model and ARDC Midget
show on Saturday night.
Hagerstown is the only big late model show in town with the Hub City 150.
Qualifying is Friday with feature racing on Saturday night.
PIT STOPS
Joey Saldana cashed in big last week on the WoO tour by winning the 54th annual
Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway. It was his 11th win this year and was worth
$50,000. He beat Jac Haudenschild, Brad Sweet, Sammy Swindell and Donny Schatz
to the line. Preliminary night wins went to Jonathan Allard and Saldana…
