Layton Drives Postupack Sprinter To Victory

By Brad Vores  Sept. 2, 2007

It didn’t take Chad Layton long to find victory lane with new car owner Pete Postupack.

Layton stormed to the win Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway in the makeup 20 lap feature that was rained out last Saturday night. He had led the first five laps last week and never gave up the lead for his first win of the season.

It also ended a dry spell for Postupack’s team, who recently departed ways with three-year driver Lance Dewease.

Layton’s win came over Doug Esh, 2007 Lincoln track champion Fred Rahmer, Jim Siegel and Niki Young.

In the regularly scheduled 35-lap sprint car main, Alan Krimes made his allnighter pay off with his second win of the season.

Krimes blew a motor on Friday and was up all night with his Uncle Butch building a new power plant. The team also had to change rears in the car but Krimes worked through the field with ease, taking the lead on lap 19 and taking the win.

Johnny Mackison, Jr. finished second with Pat Cooper taking his best career finish in third spot over Chris Knopp and Lance Dewease.

Eric Eckert topped the 25 lap Super Sportsman feature at Lincoln for his first career win over Jake Raudabaugh’s Walt Bigler owned machine. Third went to Duaine Smith with Frankie Herr coming from 15th to finish fourth over Gregg Foster.

Mark Watkins won the makeup 305 Sprint car feature that was rained out on April 28. He won over Todd Spangler, Brent Comp, Mike Freet and Scott Ellerman.

Craig Robinson won the regular 20 lap feature over Mike Freet, Scott Smith, Mark Watkins and Todd Spangler.

DEWEASE WINS IN FIRST NIGHT OUT
Fayetteville’s Lance Dewease won the first night out in the Donny Owens owned No. 30c sprint car.

Dewease took the win in Thursday night’s 32 lap York County Nationals at Susquehanna Speedway Park after leading the entire distance.
Doug Esh, Don Kreitz, Jr., Fred Rahmer and Lucas Wolfe were the top five finishers.

KELLEHER TAKES FOURTH WIN
It’s been a career season for Scranton’s Larry Kelleher as he raced to his fourth win of the year in 358 sprint car action at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Kelleher outraced Pat Cannon over the final laps for the win with Cannon, Brian Nornhold, Len Krautheim and Jeff Furlong finishing out the top five.

Jeff Rine clinched his third career Selinsgrove championship and also scored his seventh win of the year in the 25 lap late model main. He took the checkered flag over Ricky Elliott, Tony Adams, Eric Hons and Nick Dickson.

Brad Trump made it two in a row in pro stock action and Ricky Bender took his first roadrunner win.

BIG WIN FOR ANDERSON
Andy Anderson came from his 10th starting position to take the big win Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway in the 44 lap McBee/Hays Championship for late models.

While Anderson was winning the race, Winchester, Virginia’s JT Spence clinched his first ever late model track championship. He came into the night 100 points behind Bo Feathers, who had problems and it was Spence’s runner-up finish good enough to win the title by 34 points.

Alan Sagi finished third over Billy Wampler and Jamie Lathroum. Shermansdale’s Mike Lupfer finished ninth.

Andy Fries was the late model sportsman winner over Tyler Armstrong, Cody Lear, Barry Miller and Kyle Lear.

STUHLER ROMPS AT BEDFORD
Greencastle’s Gary Stuhler hasn’t had the winning season he is accustomed to but he picked up the big payday Friday night in the Labor Day 55 at Bedford Speedway.

Stuhler’s sixth win of the season was worth $5,055.

He started on the pole but followed Scott Rhodes for 50 laps before making the race winning move to win over Jeff Rine, Rhodes, Chris Harr and Jack Pencil.

Shawn Claar was the limited late model winner over Travis Calhoun and Derek Byler with Newville’s Donnie Farling 10th.

THIRD WIN FOR WITMER
Bud Witmer raced to his third 358 late model win Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

Witmer took the lead on lap 13 and drove to the win over Jake Jones, John Moser, Jr., Sam Leonard, Jr. and Scott Richwine.

Eric Walker was the street stock winner over Paul Morgan, Scott Thunberg, Dustin Hollinger and Chad Smith while Ray Broderick topped Xtreme Stock car action.

OTHER WEEKEND ACTION
Craig Robinson won Friday’s 305 Sprint car main at Path Valley Speedway over Jim Kennedy, Michael Heckman, Mark Watkins and Craig Laudermilch.

Heath Hehnly was the 600 Micro winner over Jim Brookens and Ben Murphy while Sean McAndrew was the 270 Micro winner over Hehnly and Chris Melton.

Mark Strickler topped Tim Mertz and Donnie Hendershott in 1000 Sidewinder action while Jeremy Ott (thundercars) and Gary Dehart (mini stocks) were other track winners.

JJ Grasso added his name to the first time winners on the URC Sprint car tour with a Saturday win at New Egypt over Michael Carber, Mark Bitner, Lucas Wolfe and Kramer Williamson.

Dave DiMaio was the Shippensburg Speedway 600 Micro Sprint winner Saturday over Bo Gordon, Dusty Foust, Mike Holley and Marcus DeFrietas.
