Hershey probably didn’t think his season could get much better.
Just 16 years old, the Mercersburg driver drove to the biggest win of his
young career as he posted the win in Saturday’s 50 lap Susquehanna Showdown
at Susquehanna Speedway Park.
The win was worth $5,000 for the James Buchanan High School student and
came over a stellar field of 52 358 late models. It was the first ever win
at SSP for Hershey.
Hershey recently clinches his first career 358 late model track
championship at Williams Grove Speedway and has four overall wins this
season in his family owned No. 74 late model.
After battling side by side with Knaub for a few laps, Hershey finally work
his way out front on lap 38 and drove off to a 10-car length victory over
Knaub.
Shippensburg’s Jerry Bard finished third over Kyle Lear and Chuck Yingling.
Carlisle’s Dave Sokoloski won the hard charger award with his 24th to sixth
place effort. Seventh went to Steve Weikel over Ashley Barrett, Carlisle’s
Scott Richwine and Shermansdale’s Jake Jones.
SSP track champion Carl Billet used a provisional to make the starting grid
and worked his way up to the fourth spot by lap 32 but the hood flew up on
car forcing him to the pits and ending his bid for a spectacular win.
GRETH WINS GOBRECHT MEMORIAL
Ryan Greth went out front on lap nine and then held the point through the
checkered flag to win the 50-lap Kevin Gobrecht Memorial/National Open for
600 Micro Sprints Saturday at Trail-Way Speedway.
Greth was able to keep a hard charging Brett Marks at bay on the final lap
for the big win with Heath Hehnly, Jimmy Brookens and Shippensburg’s Dwayne
Gutshall the top five. Gutshall won the B-Main and came from the rear of the
field.
In the 270 Micro sprint portion of the Open, Mike Rutherford brought home
the win over Brian Marriott, Mike Boyer, Sean McAndrew and Todd Hoover.
SMITH WINS AT THE DIAMOND
Harrisburg’s Duaine Smith led flag to flag to pick up the Super Sportsman
feature Saturday at Big Diamond Raceway.
The win was the first of the year for Smith in the Mike Callahan owned
machine and was worth $1,200.
Ken Carberry was second with Sportsman tour champ Frankie Herr of Carlisle
third over Leroy Martin and Danny Hager.
Rounding out the top 10 were Jersey boy Richie Janney, Steve Fannasy, Rich
Eichelberger, Rocky Magaro and Gerry Strausser.
SIX PATH VALLEY WINNERS
Wes Zimmerman led the list of Friday night winners at Path Valley Speedway
Park.
Zimmerman came home the winner in the 305 Sprint car feature over Jim
Kennedy, Craig Laudermilch, Tim Damiani and Michael Heckman.
Heath Hehnly won the 600 Micro Sprint main over Tom Kohler, Jim Brookens,
Tim Glatfelter and Tyler Walton.
Steve Whary topped 270 Micro action over Rich Shepard, Tom Tice, Jason
Houtz and Colby Dice.
Other track winners were Buddy Smith in the thundercars, Adam Yetter in
superstock and Kevin Thomas in mini stocks.
BEARD WINS THUNDER ON THE FARM
Bobby Beard jumped into the Seymore Racing owned thundercar and came away
the big winner in Friday night Thunder on the Farm action at Trail-Way
Speedway.
Beard took control of the 50 lap thundercar event on lap 41 passing track
champion Craig Wagaman and driving to the win over Larry Neiderer, Bob
Stough, Sam Gallagher and Duane McMillion.
Dan Furman won the 40-lap street stock feature over Kevin Sprague, Todd
Miller, Ron Vance and Josh Wildasin.
REIGLE TAKES SHIP
Cale Reigle topped 600 Micro Sprint action Saturday at Shippensburg
Speedway over Jim Young, Dave Thrush, Mike Holley and Bo Gordon.
Chris Smith won the thunder rear main, Eddie Kirby the mini stocks, Billy
Jago the cyclones, Jeremy Eutzy the 6-cylinders and Jodie Varner the
4-cylinder trucks.
