It hasn’t been the season Doug Esh and his Leach Brothers Motorsports team
had hoped for.
But Saturday night’s big payday in Esh’s first ever win at Port Royal
Speedway will help the bank account.
Esh dominated the 40th annual Tuscarora 50, earning the $11,000 paycheck
plus a lot more in lap money for his sixth overall win this season.
Esh started third in the 24-car field as Sean Michael grabbed the early
lead. Michael was looking to back up his big Dream Race win at the Port but
eventually suffered a tire problem.
Esh took the lead from Michael on lap seven and had Kevin Nouse all over
him near the completion of the first 25 laps.
With the track rubbering up over the final 25 circuits, Esh stayed glued to
the bottom of the track as Keith Kauffman, the 2007 track champion made a
late race charge but it was Esh taking the win.
Kauffman, Nouse, Friday night winner Todd Shaffer and 13th starting Fred
Rahmer were the top five with TJ Stutts, Lucas Wolfe, Stevie Smith, Greg
Hodnett and Mark Smith the top 10.
