Esh Tops Tuscarora 50

By Brad Vores  Sept. 9, 2007

It hasn’t been the season Doug Esh and his Leach Brothers Motorsports team had hoped for.

But Saturday night’s big payday in Esh’s first ever win at Port Royal Speedway will help the bank account.

Esh dominated the 40th annual Tuscarora 50, earning the $11,000 paycheck plus a lot more in lap money for his sixth overall win this season.

Esh started third in the 24-car field as Sean Michael grabbed the early lead. Michael was looking to back up his big Dream Race win at the Port but eventually suffered a tire problem.

Esh took the lead from Michael on lap seven and had Kevin Nouse all over him near the completion of the first 25 laps.

With the track rubbering up over the final 25 circuits, Esh stayed glued to the bottom of the track as Keith Kauffman, the 2007 track champion made a late race charge but it was Esh taking the win.

Kauffman, Nouse, Friday night winner Todd Shaffer and 13th starting Fred Rahmer were the top five with TJ Stutts, Lucas Wolfe, Stevie Smith, Greg Hodnett and Mark Smith the top 10.

Scott Haus won the late model feature over Mitch Hack, Tim Wilson, Tim Fedder and Eric Zembower.

PERIGO WINS AT THE GROVE

Perigo took the lead on the final lap from Danny Hager for the win. He then won the $600 prize in the Credit Connection Dash for this years feature winners.

Hager, Rick Barr, Carlisle’s Frankie Herr and John Stehman were the top five finishers.

Herr clinched the 2007 Grove Sportsman track championship, his second straight title. He also leads the Sportsman Tour series as well.

Rick Reinoehl won the Enduro over Mike Goodwin and Jan Powell.

FIRST FOR RITTENHOUSE
Todd Rittenhouse, Jr. captured his first ever 358 Sprint car win at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night.

Rittenhouse, who won a 360 Sprint car race at Lincoln a few years ago, took the lead on lap nine then held on despite having no brakes to become the 11th different winner this season at the track.

Eric Tomecek finished second over Chad Trout, 2007 track champion Cory Haas and Mechanicsburg’s Derek Locke.

Mike Spangler won his second 358 late model feature of the season at Lincoln over Travis Mease, Shaun Jones, Tyler Hershey and Bobby Beard. With his third place finish, Jones, of Shermansdale won the 2007 championship by ten points.

Neil Smith won the thundercar feature over Craig Wagaman, Duane Watson, Mike Slaybaugh and Smoke Christine.

Calaman clinched his first ever Selinsgrove 358 Sprint car championship just by starting the feature event.
